Overview of This Zion National Park Helicopter Tour

The RV Odd Couple takes a first-time helicopter tour over Zion National Park in Utah, capturing 4K aerial footage of one of America's most dramatic landscapes. The tour operates from Zion Helicopters, located near the park, and offers a perspective of the canyon that ground-level visits simply cannot match. This is a real-world account of what to expect: the sensations, the views, the preparation, and honest feedback from someone experiencing their first flight.

This experience suits adventure travelers who want to see Zion from above, families looking for a memorable outing, and anyone curious about aerial tours but unsure whether they can handle the ride. The video combines stunning scenery with practical tips and candid reactions, making it useful whether you're confident about heights or nervous about motion sickness.

What to Know Before Booking Your Zion Helicopter Tour

  • Weight screening: The operator weighs all passengers on a scale before boarding for safety and weight-distribution reasons; empty your pockets beforehand.
  • Safety briefing: Expect a thorough safety demonstration at the beginning, including information on the spinning propeller, fuel fumes, and puke bag locations.
  • Ear pressure: Bring gum or be prepared to pop your ears during altitude changes to avoid discomfort.
  • Headphones are essential: Unlike planes, helicopter noise is loud enough that you'll need headsets to hear the pilot or communicate with others.
  • Fuel smell: Some passengers in certain seats may detect gasoline fumes; inform the crew if this occurs and they can open windows to ventilate.
  • Aggressive turns: The pilot may perform steep bank turns for footage and to assess passenger tolerance; these are normal but can feel intense.
  • Discount available: Zion Helicopters offers 10% off tours when you mention the RV Odd Couple video and note that you're a member of their RV Odd Squad community.

Common Questions About Zion Helicopter Tours

Will I get motion sickness on a helicopter?

The video shows that helicopter flights are rougher than airplane flights, with noticeable up-and-down movement from cliff updrafts and sharp turns. Motion sickness is a real possibility, especially in the rear seats where fuel fumes may also be more noticeable. If you're prone to motion sickness, warn the crew beforehand so they can help you manage it—and know that puke bags are provided for a reason.

How long is the actual flight time?

The video does not specify the total flight duration. You should contact Zion Helicopters directly at 435-668-4185 to confirm how long your specific tour lasts, as this varies by tour package.

What is the takeoff experience like?

Takeoff is unlike a plane: the helicopter rises more vertically and the sensation is notably different. In the video, the pilot performs a hard bank turn at about 120 miles per hour shortly after takeoff, which is used both to position for the route and to gauge passenger comfort with the ride. Be prepared for this unusual sensation if you've never flown in a helicopter before.

Do I need to worry about the helicopter's safety?

The operator conducts a formal safety briefing that covers the spinning propeller, fuel fumes, and emergency procedures. The video shows that the pilot is experienced and skillful, and the flight itself operates smoothly. Standard safety protocols are in place and enforced.

Can I bring a camera or phone?

The video features high-quality 4K footage captured during the tour, suggesting that cameras are permitted. However, you should confirm the specific rules about personal devices and whether you need to secure them when booking. The helicopter's windows and open-door design provide excellent photo opportunities.

Justin’s Take

This video is valuable because it doesn't hide the challenging aspects of a helicopter tour. The footage is stunning and the aerial perspective of Zion is genuinely spectacular, but the creator also honestly discusses the rough ride, the fuel smell, and the physical sensations that surprised her. That candor helps viewers make an informed decision rather than arriving with unrealistic expectations.

What I appreciated most was seeing real reactions—not scripted enthusiasm, but a nervous first-time passenger who still concludes she's glad she did it. The 4K aerial views of Zion's formations and the pilot's skillful turns capture footage that grounds-based travel simply cannot offer. If you're considering this experience, watch this video first; I'd strongly recommend booking.

so we're in zion we are taking mercedes for her first helicopter trip over zion and the question is is she going to puke or p [Music] so we're gonna share a lot of tips things that i wish i had known ahead of time and maybe things that i'm glad i didn't know ahead of time overall i am glad that i

did it so we're on our way to zion helicopters to take a helicopter ride over uh zion and mercedes is a little bit nervous sage is really excited are you ready to go on the helicopter um yes where do you want to go i want to go and go and fly in the sky you want to fly in the sky in

a helicopter oh it's cool i think i'm the only one that's like really thinking this through critically if it wasn't for the fact that we're gonna be going over something so beautiful and remember life for sure babe yeah it'll be even shorter so check out what we're heading into right now zion is absolutely amazing we

thought it was amazing driving through we've been here for a little over a week now we love zion it's just so beautiful but seeing zion from the air is an experience that is second to none signing my rights away the place we went to was absolutely gorgeous and it was really cute they had

like shirts and shot glasses like little merch for sale i really wish that they had had baby helicopters for sale that would have been really cute the shots we weren't sure if the shot glasses were for before the helicopter ride or after the helicopter ride [Music] you want to go in the helicopter

they actually walk you through a whole safety demonstration in the beginning and we thought that the safety demonstration was like you know put a book over your head and kiss your butt goodbye kind of thing and part of the demonstration was the puke bags but i didn't really think they

would be necessary please don't go towards the tail that's the dangers and there's a spinning propeller super fast and dangerous and there's also a gasoline to breathe in that they actually weigh you before you get on the helicopter and i'm not talking driver's license right here

i'm talking you actually have to stand on the scale so just empty out your pockets people [Music]

we were super lucky to have a friend of ours jason of taking our toys and living with us and he so he jumped on the plane he was doing photography work in the back seat and helping us with sage yeah he was working yeah jason was [Music]

awesome [Music] it was a really unique experience unlike a plane we absolutely needed those

headphones in order to hear [Music] [Music] riding a helicopter is nothing like a

plane the takeoff is very weird it's like but one of the things that i noticed about the plane when we took off is that um he ran straight down the highway um and then he made a hard bank turn probably at about he told us about 120 miles per hour i think he was testing to see what

mercedes could handle and what mercedes couldn't handle that bank started it [Music]

[Music] [Music]

um and we definitely felt our ears popping from time to time so chew gum or you know pop your ears when you're out there [Music]

we were covered by these cliffs and then when we went above the cliffs we could get the updraft off the cliffs and the uh the helicopter would either drop you know probably 50 or 60 feet or rise 50 or 60 feet yes the helicopter pilot was phenomenal he did a great great job he knew mercedes was nervous when we

first got on the plane um he told her where the puke bags were just in case yup well it turns out they almost were necessary and here's the big reason why we were sitting i was sitting in the back and the back had this heavy fuel smell i learned later that i could have just told them about it and they could have

opened the windows and it would have made it mentioned a little bit yeah so it wasn't venting so john was fine in the front he wasn't getting this fume smell i felt like i was inhaling fumes of gasoline yeah john was in seventh heaven in awe of everything that i was seeing around me

it was just absolutely incredible and every time i did take a peek into the backseat sage's face was ear to air mercedes was [Music] happy [Music]

okay [Music] [Music]

i thought it was a pretty i thought it was a pretty smooth flight well john's definition of smooth isn't saying much because if you knew about john you know that he'd write anything [Music]

[Music] you know one of the cool things about those bank turns was that they allowed us to get some really sweet footage incredible footage but there were a little hairy so you know i'm glad we did this experience and i'm really glad we could share this with you but i just think you should be

forewarned especially if you're like me and you do tend to get motion sickness [Music]

um and the landing was actually pretty seamless whereas when you're landing in an airplane that's the part that's kind of scary so overall i am glad that i did it if you're new to our channel welcome if you'd like to

become a member of the rv odd squad just hit the subscribe button give our video a thumbs up and you're a member and make sure you ring the bell so you actually get notified of our videos because we're doing all these crazy adventures and we don't want you guys to miss out yeah we are just going to some amazing
