Practical Details to Know Before Booking Victory I

  • Stateroom sizing: Category B cabins are compact but well-organized; storage is decent with dual closets, though the secondary outlet placement far from the desk can make device charging inconvenient
  • Bathroom reality: Showers are small with aggressive non-slip flooring that makes movement tight; L'Occitane toiletries and robes are provided as comfort touches
  • Mattress note: The mattress height was too tall at the time of this tour, but the crew is already making modifications to frames to address this issue
  • Cabin upgrades available: Categories C, D, E, AA, and A staterooms offer progressively more space, with the two Owner's Suites measuring 335 square feet for significantly more comfort
  • Dining variety: Three main venues (Coastal Dining Room, The Grill, The Tavern) offer full service, quick service, and casual options with complimentary drinks and canapés included
  • Entertainment focus: Live music and dancing occur in the Compass Lounge, but the ship emphasizes shore experiences over extensive onboard programming—ideal if you prefer exploring ports over nightlife

Common Questions About the Victory I Cruise Experience

What makes the Victory I different from larger cruise ships?

The Victory I is a mid-sized ship designed to emphasize scenic cruising and port access rather than mega-ship amenities. The video shows it carries a friendlier, more intimate atmosphere with crew-centered service and a strong focus on outdoor observation decks. American Queen Steamboat Company's ownership has also modernized it with updates throughout, making it feel more contemporary than older river-cruise vessels.

Are the cabins really that small?

The Category B stateroom shown in the video is compact but functional, with good storage for its size thanks to dual closets. The bathroom and shower are admittedly tight, and the secondary outlet placement is inconvenient for charging. However, the video confirms that larger categories (C through A) offer progressively more space, and the two Owner's Suites provide substantially more comfort at 335 square feet each.

What dining options are included in the cruise?

The video shows three main dining venues: the Coastal Dining Room for full-service meals with a buffet area, The Grill (recently enclosed) for quick-service breakfast, lunch, and dinner with scenic views, and The Tavern for casual dining and complimentary drinks. Complimentary canapés are also offered before dinner, and a coffee and cookie station is available in the Compass Lounge.

Is there enough entertainment onboard?

Entertainment is less extensive than on larger American Queen Steamboat Company vessels, but the video confirms it's still good quality. The Compass Lounge hosts live musicians, dancers, and singers performing a wide variety of styles, and guests are encouraged to dance. However, the ship's real draw is shore-side experiences and scenic cruising rather than nightly shows, so it suits guests who prioritize port exploration.

What outdoor deck space is available for viewing?

The video showcases multiple outdoor areas: the Terrace with cozy seating, the Observation Lounge (which is essentially covered deck space with a central shelter), and the Sun Deck for better weather. The video even captures a beautiful sunset passing through locks, demonstrating the quality of scenic viewing opportunities these spaces provide.

Justin’s Take

This video is invaluable because it shows you real stateroom conditions and honest trade-offs—the reviewers don't gloss over the mattress height issue or the tight shower, but they also highlight the thoughtful touches like L'Occitane toiletries and well-stocked amenities. They walk through every major public space with enough detail that you can mentally experience the ship before booking, and the 4K quality lets you see the finishes and decor clearly.

What I appreciated most was the balance: the reviewers celebrate the beautiful Compass Lounge and outdoor deck spaces while acknowledging that entertainment is more modest than on larger sister ships, making it genuinely helpful for deciding if this vessel matches your expectations. If you're considering Victory Cruise Lines, this tour is essential viewing, and I'd wholeheartedly recommend watching it before you book.

Hey there, you're watching Popular Cruising and our review of the Victory 1 from Victory Cruise Lines. Victory is now owned by American Queen Steamboat Company and the ship has been updated accordingly. Regarding accommodations, we personally enjoyed a category B stateroom.

Including a comfortably firm bed that our teddy bears approved of. As well as a small but handy desk area. At the time we sailed the mattress was too tall, but modifications are already being made to the frames to make it shorter. For a smaller room, storage is fairly decent. But the secondary outlet far from the

desk made it a bit challenging to charge off of. Nonetheless, dual closets worked out very well. Which also featured available robes. As expected, the bathroom was also a bit smaller. But features wonderful L'Occitane

toiletries. That take some of the sting out of the itty-bitty showers, which has a very aggressive non-slip floor. And it's very difficult not to make constant contact with the enclosure and curtain. However, a bit larger are the category C cabins.

And another 6 square feet bigger are the category D ones. Also configured similarly but a smidge bigger, are category E staterooms. Jumping back alphabetically, but up in size, are category AA ones. And again larger at 185 square feet are

category A staterooms. Finally, changing configurations more substantially and measuring in at 335 square feet are the two owner's suites. Activity-wise, fans of American Queen Steamboat Company will feel right at home on board Victory I.

Where the purser's desk and friendly crew are front and center. Just off from which is a small, but well-stocked spa. Here you can sign up for treatments.

Or head to the fitness center. Nicely outfitted with several pieces of equipment. Even the central stair and elevator lobbies are beautifully designed. The Compass Lounge is the main window-wrapped gathering space.

Setting the scene for the rest of the ship's handsome aesthetic. Including the tavern filled with games and rich decor. Here's where you'll find a collection of the ship's fascinating port plaques. And enjoy sharing time with while observing the passing scenery.

And there's plenty of deck space at the terrace to see even more outside. Complete with cozy seating.

As well as a direct access to the observation lounge. Which is really just more outdoor deck space with a central covered section. Plus there's an additional sun deck to be enjoyed during better weather.

Such as a beautiful sunset passing through fascinating locks. Naturally sped up here for time.

Now that's enough to work up an appetite in time for dining. Including getting a complimentary drink back at the tavern. Or enjoying a canapé before dinner. The Compass Lounge even has a coffee and cookie station to help yourself.

And boy, are they good. Recently enclosed from being a former al fresco dining venue is the Grill. Which makes it another great place to take in scenic views. And of course, grab tasty quick service breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Or for full service, there's the Coastal Dining Room. Yet another architecturally pleasing space. With its own buffet area. And spacious guest seating.

What's really unique here is the display of all menu items before entering. So you can better make your delicious such as these.

And lastly, entertainment is not quite as extensive as on board American Queen Steamboat Company. But it's still quite good in the Compass Lounge. Including ace live musicians, if not dancers and singers.

Performing a wide variety of styles. And of course, there's always the opportunity for guests to dance themselves.

But on Victory, the emphasis is more on shore side experiences, such as visiting Niagara Falls. An experience I had not yet tried, but loved when I did. Including getting absolutely deluged by the spray.

And seeing it all up close and personal. Thanks for watching. Please feel free to subscribe to our channel, watch our other videos, and visit popularcruising.com.
