Overview of This Celebrity Edge Alaska Cruise & Helicopter Tour

This seven-night roundtrip helicopter and cruise experience departs from Seattle and visits four Alaska ports: Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, and Victoria, British Columbia. The video documents a family of four traveling aboard Celebrity Edge in June 2025, combining the cruise ship experience with active shore excursions—helicopter glacier landings, scenic train rides, whale watching, and guided exploration of historic towns. This itinerary suits travelers who want to see Alaska's glaciers and wilderness without backpacking or roughing it, and who are willing to book adventure activities months in advance to secure spots.

The cruise emphasizes getting off the ship at each port rather than lounging onboard. The video shows what daily life aboard Celebrity Edge feels like—the Infinite Veranda cabin design, dining options, entertainment, and pools—but the real draw is the excursions themselves. If you're considering an Alaska cruise and wondering whether to splurge on premium add-ons like a helicopter glacier landing, this review provides concrete costs, real family feedback, and honest assessments of which activities delivered and which felt less rewarding.

Key Moments

Standout Moments from the Alaska Voyage

  • Landing on Mendenhall Glacier by helicopter, walking on the ice with crampons, and filling water bottles with glacier melt water while surrounded by towering mountains and total silence
  • Early morning scenic cruise through Endicott Arm fjord with close views of Dawes Glacier, floating icebergs, harbor seals on ice, and waterfalls pouring down cliffsides, witnessed from the deck and the cabin's Infinite Veranda window
  • White Pass & Yukon Route scenic train ride from Skagway climbing through mountain valleys, crossing wooden trestle bridges, and reaching snow-covered peaks while hearing stories of the Klondike Gold Rush
  • Private van tour of Ketchikan with a local guide, including visits to the Totem Heritage Center, Creek Street historic boardwalk, and watching bald eagles and salmon running
  • Humpback whale mother and calf spotted during an evening whale-watching excursion in Victoria, despite rough seas and a lengthy boat ride
  • Celebrity Edge ship amenities including a circular theater with live shows, a modern Infinite Veranda stateroom with a floor-to-ceiling window that lowers on demand, and a high-quality buffet with nightly themed dinners

What You Need to Know Before Booking This Alaska Cruise

  • Booking timeline: The creator planned this trip for 18 months in advance; helicopter tours and popular excursions fill up fast and must be reserved early
  • Helicopter tour details: The Juneau glacier landing involved a 20-minute ride from port to airport, a scenic flight over the glacier, and a landing directly on the ice; the total time was several hours including check-in and return to ship
  • Scenic glacier cruising: Endicott Arm entry began at 4:45 a.m.; naturalists narrate over the PA system on deck (not inside), and the Infinite Veranda cabin offered excellent views with a warm beverage option
  • Train ride duration and season: The White Pass & Yukon Route is a full-day excursion with narration; visiting in late June offers snow-covered peaks, but by July most snow melts
  • Whale watching conditions: The Victoria excursion involved a 30+ mile boat ride and rough seas (1.5–2 meter swells); seasickness medicine is recommended, and rough conditions are possible
  • Packing for Alaska: Bring multiple layers and jackets; magnetic hooks and clips work on ship walls for hanging extra clothing and gear
  • Cabin storage: An Infinite Veranda cabin works well for a family of four but storage is tight with cold-weather gear; bring a pop-up hamper and over-the-door shoe rack to maximize space
  • Dining: The buffet is high quality with nightly themed menus; you can order from any main dining room's menu even if assigned to another restaurant

Frequently Asked Questions About This Alaska Cruise Experience

Is the helicopter glacier tour really worth the cost?

According to the video, the helicopter landing on Mendenhall Glacier was called "the highlight of the entire cruise" and labeled a "must-do Alaska experience." The sensation of standing on ice surrounded by mountains and silence, plus filling water bottles with fresh glacier melt, created a moment the creator said she would never forget. If a helicopter glacier landing is your top priority for the trip, the cost appears justified—though exact pricing is detailed later in the full video.

Can you see glaciers from the ship without booking an excursion?

Yes. The video shows that the ship cruised through Endicott Arm and approached Dawes Glacier closely enough that passengers could view it from the deck and from their cabin windows. The captain navigated Celebrity Edge to its closest-ever position to the glacier. However, a helicopter landing offers a completely different, more intimate experience on the ice itself rather than viewing from a distance.

What is an Infinite Veranda cabin, and is it good for Alaska?

An Infinite Veranda is a Celebrity cabin design where the entire outer wall becomes a floor-to-ceiling window that lowers with a button push, replacing a traditional balcony. The video shows it worked beautifully for Alaska because fresh mountain air flowed in without needing to step outside, and the window provided unobstructed glacier and fjord views. The trade-off is that when the window is open, the air conditioning shuts off—fine in cool Alaska but potentially uncomfortable on warmer itineraries.

How much time do you actually spend in each port?

The video does not provide exact docking durations for every port, but Victoria was noted as a tight final stop (arriving at 5:30 p.m., departing at 11:30 p.m.), leaving only four hours onshore. The helicopter excursion in Juneau required several hours total, and the train ride in Skagway was a full-day activity. Ketchikan allowed time for a private van tour and exploration of Creek Street. Plan your excursions with realistic travel time from the port to activity locations.

Is this cruise suitable for kids?

The video features a family of four with two sons and highlights kid-friendly moments like tasting fresh glacier meltwater, spotting bald eagles, and seeing salmon runs. The ship has pools, nightly activities, entertainment, and game shows. However, some excursions—like the whale-watching boat ride with rough seas—may cause seasickness in children. The cruise works for families, but choose excursions thoughtfully based on your children's comfort levels.

The Juneau helicopter section is where the video truly shines. Watching the journey from nervousness before takeoff to standing on the glacier surrounded by silence and ice is the emotional heart of the entire review, and it explains why the creator called

Justin’s Take

This video serves as a thorough, honest Alaska cruise guide with real numbers on what a family actually spent, detailed room and ship tours, and frank assessments of which excursions delivered. The creator shares her genuine emotions—nervousness before the helicopter flight, the surreal silence on the glacier, seasickness on the whale boat—which helps viewers decide if they want the same experience. It's also helpful that she compares her first Celebrity cruise to years of Royal Caribbean sailing, giving context for anyone weighing cruise lines.

What stands out most is the helicopter glacier segment and the Endicott Arm fjord footage, both of which convey the raw beauty of Alaska in a way that makes you understand why this cruise is a bucket-list trip. The video balances glamorous moments (ship theater, gourmet buffet) with practical family reality (tight cabin storage, rough seas causing seasickness), making it genuinely useful for travelers deciding whether to book. This is a solid, well-rounded review that will help you commit to the experience with eyes wide open.

The ship navigated Endicott Arm fjord for a close-up view of Dawes Glacier. Incredible scenery, floating icebergs, and we even saw harbor seals resting on the ice!

🚂 Skagway – White Pass Railway + Yukon Suspension Bridge
We did the White Pass & Yukon Route train excursion, which took us through stunning mountain landscapes into Canada. Also got to explore the Yukon Suspension Bridge — a great combo of scenery and history.

🐋 Victoria, BC – Evening Walk + Gardens
In Victoria, British Columbia, we had a relaxed evening port stop. We explored the Inner Harbour on foot, checked out the Parliament building lit up at night, and took in the city’s charming, walkable vibe. A low-key way to end the cruise.

• Celebrity’s stunning circular theater
• Multiple live shows, a guest comedian, and a guest singer
• Q&A with the captain
• Nightly activities at The Club — live music, trivia, and game shows
