Overview of CBD's Five Health Benefits for Dogs and Cats

Dr. Andrew Jones presents five scientifically-studied uses of CBD (cannabidiol) for pets, focusing on conditions where conventional treatment options are limited. CBD is the non-psychoactive compound from the cannabis plant that works by interacting with the endocannabinoid system naturally present in dogs, cats, and other mammals. This system includes CB1 and CB2 receptors throughout the body, particularly in the brain, which help regulate pain and inflammation.

The video covers CBD applications for allergies, bone healing, viral infections, urinary tract disease and incontinence, and inflammatory bowel disease. Dr. Jones explains the mechanism behind each benefit and shares dosing guidance, noting that a standard dose is approximately three milligrams per ten pounds of body weight daily, though higher doses may be needed for certain conditions like allergies.

Key Moments

Five Specific CBD Applications for Your Pet's Health

  • Allergies in dogs and cats: An eight-week U.S. study showed over 54 percent of dogs taking CBD experienced decreased itching, scratching, redness, and skin lesions.
  • Bone healing: Research on rats found CB1 and CB2 receptors in bone tissue; CBD increased the rate of fracture healing, offering a natural option when conventional methods are limited.
  • Antiviral support: Published research demonstrates CBD inhibits SARS-CoV-2 replication and stimulates immune response; similar benefits may apply to kennel cough in dogs and feline upper respiratory infections.
  • Urinary tract issues: CBD is currently being studied for idiopathic cystitis in cats and incontinence in both dogs and cats, with promising early results.
  • Inflammatory bowel disease: Studies on similar conditions in humans show CBD reduces gut inflammation, potentially decreasing diarrhea, vomiting, and blood in stool—common symptoms in cats with IBD.

Why Pet Owners Should Consider CBD as a Treatment Option

Many pet health conditions discussed in the video—particularly bone healing, inflammatory bowel disease, and certain urinary tract problems—have few effective conventional or holistic alternatives. Traditional treatments like corticosteroids for IBD come with long-term side effects, making pet owners search for additional options. CBD offers a natural supplement backed by peer-reviewed studies, filling a gap in veterinary treatment options. For conditions like allergies and respiratory viruses, CBD provides a complementary approach that may enhance overall recovery. Given that the endocannabinoid system is present in all mammals, including your pets, CBD's interaction with this natural biological system makes it a scientifically grounded consideration for pet owners looking beyond standard pharmaceuticals.

Common Questions About CBD Treatment for Pets

How does CBD work in a pet's body?

All mammals, including dogs and cats, have an endocannabinoid system with CB1 and CB2 receptors throughout the body. Your pet's body naturally produces cannabinoids that attach to these receptors, providing pain relief and other benefits. Giving CBD as a supplement provides an external source of cannabinoids that works with this existing biological system.

Is CBD safe for cats and dogs?

The video does not report adverse effects from the studies discussed. However, as with any supplement, you should consult with your veterinarian before starting CBD, especially if your pet is on other medications. Dr. Jones emphasizes that the video is for educational purposes and should not replace professional veterinary advice.

What dose of CBD should I give my pet?

The standard maintenance dose is three milligrams per ten pounds of body weight daily. For conditions like allergies requiring more therapeutic benefit, Dr. Jones recommends starting at a minimum of three milligrams per ten pounds twice daily. Individual pets may respond differently, so working with your vet to find the right dose is important.

How long does it take to see results from CBD?

The allergy study mentioned in the video ran for eight weeks before significant improvement was documented. Results vary depending on the condition being treated and the individual pet. Some conditions like anxiety may show faster results, while chronic issues like allergies may require weeks of consistent use.

Can CBD help with pet anxiety?

While not one of the five main benefits discussed, Dr. Jones mentions using CBD on his own pet, a small dog named Tula, to manage anxiety during veterinary exams. He reports that a couple of drops noticeably calmed her behavior on the exam table, suggesting CBD may have anxiety-reducing properties for pets.

Justin’s Take

This video fills a real gap by grounding CBD use in actual peer-reviewed studies rather than marketing hype. Dr. Jones walks through five conditions where pet owners genuinely have few options, and he's honest about what the research shows and what it doesn't yet prove.

What I appreciated most was the practical dosing guidance and his acknowledgment that CBD works through a natural system already present in your pet's body. If you have a dog or cat with allergies, bone injuries, or chronic digestive issues, this is genuinely worth exploring with your vet. I'd confidently recommend it.

CBD for your cats for your dogs five new studied health benefits why you should consider using this hello welcome back to my channel if you're new welcome click there to subscribe hit the Bell to sign up for notifications I encourage you to sign up for my brand new webinar and CBD for dogs and cats you can click

the link in the box below to sign up CBD Canada it's the non-psychoactive portion of the cannabis plant it's got a bunch of specific health benefits in particular it's being used for many many dog and cat parents for pets that have arthritis how does it work well it turns out that you are dogs or cats mammals we

have this thing called an easy ass or an endocannabinoid system so what that means is our bodies our dogs our cats bodies they actually produce a type of cannabinoid and that moves throughout the body attaching to the CB1 CB2 receptors such as in the brain providing pain relief meaning our dog's brains

they actually produce cannabinoids another way that you can give cannabinoids to your dog to your cat it's via supplement such as this chemodile or CBD so what are these five new benefits of CBD chemical for our dogs and cats well let's start with number one allergies in our dogs

itchiness scratchiness excessive pollicking there's been a couple different studies one in the U.S one in Australia in the U.S study they follow dogs for over an eight week period and dogs that were taking CBD chemodile in this one study over 54 percent showed a decrease in some of the allergic signs

you know less itching less scratching decreased redness less skin lesions foreign healing this is a super important one and you really don't have very many conventional and or holistic options you know just speed up bone healing your dog your cats had a fracture you're like what can you do one study on rats they

found like CB1 CB2 receptors in the bone and when these rats were given CBD chemodile it actually sped the rate of fracture healing you know you've got a dog a cat that's got a bone injury and you're wanting like to do something natural that can help it's a CBD cabinet aisle yeah

as an antiviral and this is huge there is a specific published paper which shows that CBD camera dial it inhibits SARS cov2 replication as well as stimulating the host immune response in other words people that were on CBD they were less likely to get covered and if those people were infected with covid

they actually recovered quicker so I mean that's huge you're talking about CBD as an antiviral say the poodle is coughing she's picked up a respiratory virus something like kennel cough CBD chemodile it may actually decrease the replication of that virus and actually get her over it quicker the cat flu is

just so so common in her cats especially amongst the kittens I get so many questions about the calf flu once again CBD chemodile it may actually help decrease the likelihood of your cat getting infected with the cat flu virus and if they are infected it might actually speed up the rate at which they

get over it [Music] foreign do you have a cat that has problems with urinary tract disease you know repeated urinary tract infections perhaps peeing in different parts of the house that they shouldn't be maybe you have a dog that has incontinence a CBD is currently being studied for idiopathic cystitis that's

what many of our cats get also being studied in people who can get a type of incontinence and what they're finding is in many of these cases CBD chemodile is helpful [Music] foreign [Music] which can be beneficial for our dogs beneficial for our cats inflammatory bowel disease one study they looked at

ulcerative colitis in people which is somewhat very similar to inflammatory bowel disease and they're finding CBD chemodile there's specific CB1 CB2 receptors and while people are on the Canon dial they're actually seeing less gut inflammation if you have less inflammation all of a sudden you have

all those decreased number of clinical signs you're not having a diarrhea the urgency to go to the bathroom you know the blood in the stool inflammatory bowel these is really common in our cats you know repeated boats are vomiting repeated bout to diarrhea and honestly it's super difficult to treat you know

often the only veteran option is a corticosteroid you have a cat that has repeated boats of vomiting you're kind of at wit's end what else can I try [Music] [Music] as far as CBD doses standard dose is about three milligrams per 10 pounds of body weight daily little tools she's 20

pounds means you get two drops of my CBD supplement for many of these diseases aka the allergies I suggest you start at a minimum of three milligrams per 10 pounds of body weight twice daily I personally have been taking CBD chemodile for sleep as well as for inflammation and it just got an array of

so many new benefits it's almost like why am I not taking it little Tula she's got serious anxiety especially when it involves this being on the exam table I give her a couple drops of the CBD and honestly it does make a difference she really is calmer when she's up here if you've yet to try it on your dog your

cat I encourage you to do so especially if you've got one of those diseases that we discussed thanks so much for watching this Edition on Veterinary secrets on the health benefits of CBD for our dogs and cats I encourage you to sign up for my brand new free webinar on CBD for dogs and cats you can click the link in
