What to Expect Aboard GENNY, an 80-Foot Greek Catamaran

GENNY is an 80-foot Sunreef catamaran based in Nafplio, Greece, offering crewed luxury charters through myGreekCharter. The video provides a complete walkthrough of the vessel's layout, accommodations, and amenities, filmed while docked in Nafplio. This experience suits travelers seeking a stable, spacious platform for island-hopping around Greece with professional crew, chef, and water sports included.

The size and design make GENNY particularly well-suited to Greek waters. According to the captain in the video, the 80-foot length strikes an ideal balance—large enough to handle variable sea conditions and provide comfort, yet nimble enough to access smaller bays, shallow anchorages, and closer approaches to rocky coastlines that larger vessels cannot reach. The catamaran hull design also delivers a notably calmer ride compared to monohull alternatives, which matters when navigating Greece's sometimes-choppy waters.

Practical Details Before Booking GENNY

  • Book well in advance—the video emphasizes that GENNY is heavily booked and that inquiring one to two years ahead is standard practice for premium yachts like this
  • Sleeps up to 10 guests comfortably across five cabins, making it suitable for larger groups or multiple families
  • The captain notes that night passages allow guests to travel between distant locations (such as from the Saronic Gulf to the Cyclades) while sleeping, arriving refreshed at a new anchorage each morning
  • Weather stability: the 80-foot catamaran performs well in varying sea conditions; the video shows the captain confirming the yacht can "go anywhere" with minimal downtime
  • Crewed experience includes a professional captain who plans routes strategically, allowing guests to wake in new locations and explore during daylight hours

Frequently Asked Questions About Chartering GENNY

How many people can GENNY accommodate?

The vessel sleeps up to 10 guests across five cabins. The master and VIP cabins are notably spacious and described as similar in size, with the master being slightly larger. All cabins include ensuite bathrooms.

Is the catamaran stable in rough water?

Yes. The captain explicitly states that GENNY has "much better" stability compared to similar catamarans when traveling, resulting in "much calmer" motion. The 80-foot size is specifically noted as ideal for Greek waters, which can experience variable conditions.

What is included with the crew?

The crew includes a professional captain and a Michelin-star chef. The captain manages navigation, route planning, and docking, while the chef handles all meal preparation on board, ensuring fine dining throughout your charter.

Can I access smaller anchorages and shallow bays?

Yes. The captain highlights that despite its 80-foot length, GENNY can access small bays and approach rocky coastlines closely—it is "not too big" to enter restricted areas that larger yachts cannot reach, giving you access to more secluded spots around the Greek islands.

How far in advance should I book?

The video stresses booking one to two years ahead. GENNY is popular and fully booked for the season being discussed, and the crew notes that even inquiring just two weeks or a month before is unlikely to find availability. Early planning is essential for securing your dates.

Justin’s Take

This video is invaluable if you're seriously considering a crewed yacht charter in Greece. It delivers genuine detail about cabin sizes, crew expertise, seaworthiness, and the practical advantages of the catamaran design—without sales hype. The captain's honest assessment of the vessel's capabilities in Greek waters and the honest booking timeline are refreshingly candid.

What impressed me most was how the video showcases the balance between space and maneuverability: GENNY is large enough to feel luxurious and stable, yet still nimble enough to explore the intimate anchorages and shallow bays that make Greece's island-hopping so magical. If a crewed catamaran experience in Greek waters appeals to you, this walkthrough answers nearly every practical question before you reach out to charter brokers.
