What to Expect From a Luxury BVI Yacht Charter

This video takes you aboard the Indulgence, a 67-foot Fountaine Pajot luxury catamaran, for an intimate look at what a crewed yacht charter in the British Virgin Islands actually feels like. Rather than a standard resort vacation confined to one location, you'll discover how a private charter lets you wake up in a different paradise each morning—sailing between islands, anchoring in secluded bays, and exploring world-class destinations within hours of departure. The video follows yachting expert Klara Jakobsen and her crew (captain, gourmet chef, and bartender) as they navigate the calm, protected waters of the BVI, revealing both the logistical ease of sailing here and the genuine luxury of personalized onboard service.

This experience suits travelers seeking an escape from crowded resorts and standard vacations—couples celebrating milestones, families wanting active water adventures without compromising comfort, or anyone who values the freedom to explore multiple islands without packing and unpacking. The BVI's reputation as the "catamaran sailing capital of the world" isn't casual marketing; the islands are genuinely designed for boating, with short scenic passages, excellent anchorages, and the rare combination of easy access to restaurants and activities alongside total seclusion just an hour away from busy marinas.

Key Moments

Highlights From Your BVI Sailing Journey

  • The Baths at Virgin Gorda: a labyrinth of giant granite boulders and hidden caves you can swim to directly from the yacht, complete with ladders to climb and cathedral-like chambers to explore
  • Candlelit dinners aboard with custom table settings, handmade ingredients (including the chef's own ketchup and mayonnaise), and dishes like mahi Wellington and homemade pesto pasta
  • An evening at Coco Maya, one of the BVI's most famous beach restaurants, accessible by tender and highly recommended by local captains
  • "Indulgence Hour" at sunset: curated snacks, cocktails crafted by a dedicated bartender, and celebration moments—including birthday surprises with champagne
  • The ability to cover several islands in one week while remaining secluded; the video shows arriving at a bay in full view of the marina yet surrounded by no other boats

Frequently Asked Questions About BVI Luxury Yacht Charters

What makes the BVI different from other sailing destinations?

The BVI is specifically set up for the boating community with excellent service, calm protected waters, and short scenic sails between islands. Uniquely, you can be just one hour away from a busy marina hub yet anchored in a completely secluded bay with no other boats—a rare combination that balances convenience with genuine seclusion.

How does a catamaran charter compare to staying at a resort?

While a resort confines you to one location, a charter lets you cover several islands in the same timeframe. Each morning you wake up in a different spot, exploring diverse beaches, restaurants, and activities without the hassle of packing and changing hotels. The private crew also personalizes every aspect of your experience.

What happens if the weather turns bad?

The BVI enjoys stunning weather most of the time. Occasional wind and island rain can occur, but the crew is experienced in adapting the itinerary and ensuring you have a great experience regardless. The waters are protected, making sailing safer and more comfortable than in rougher regions.

Can you dine ashore, or is all food prepared on the boat?

Both. The chef prepares gourmet meals aboard most nights with candlelit table settings and handmade ingredients. You also have the option to visit celebrated beach restaurants like Coco Maya on Virgin Gorda, which is easily accessible by tender and highly recommended by captains in the area.

How far in advance should you book?

Luxury crewed charters are in high demand, especially during peak seasons. Booking well in advance—ideally several months ahead—ensures you secure your preferred yacht, crew, and travel dates. Charter specialists can also help customize your itinerary based on your interests.

Justin’s Take

If you've ever wondered whether a crewed helicopter or yacht charter is worth the investment, this video answers the question honestly by showing the actual rhythm of life aboard a luxury catamaran. Rather than glossy resort marketing, you see the captain setting up sunrise coffee, the chef hand-rolling pasta, and the genuine quiet of a secluded anchorage—and you understand why this isn't just "a boat trip" but a fundamentally different way to travel.

What impressed me most was how the video balanced indulgence with genuine exploration: yes, there are candlelit dinners, but you're also hiking through granite boulders, swimming straight from the boat to hidden beaches, and covering islands that would take weeks to visit by land. The crew's expertise—knowing which anchorages offer seclusion minutes from restaurants—is something you simply cannot replicate with a bareboat rental. If you value personalized service, freedom to explore multiple islands without logistics hassle, and the rare combination of luxury and adventure, this charter style is genuinely worth considering.

One of the most unique holidays or vacation that  you could take. Welcome to paradise. Come join us.   I love it. Welcome to Fort Indulgence, y'all.  It's a beautiful day. I'd love to get out here   and get the sails up and uh you know, just look  at the beauty in the the British Virgin Islands.

you can cover a lot more territory in a very  short amount of time. So when you go to a resort,   you are almost confined to that resort.  But when you are going on a charter,   you can cover several islands. The BBI is  the catamaran sailing uh capital of the   world. And the islands here in the BBIS are  really set up for the boating community. Uh,

it's really amazing and service here is really  great. Mike D does his magic at the bar and I   like to dinner snack. We like to pair it  together where if I'm preparing something,   it's going to go with his beverage of the day.  Tonight I made a uh a blue Caribbean kind of a   one of my twists on a painkillerish kind of a  drink. Classic island coconut rum uh drink. So

it to you. Cheers guys. Cheers everyone. Look  how green. It's quite amazing that the BVI is   a very popular location and there's a lot of  catamarans here and still we had the option   to come to this bay and we're literally right in  front of the beach and there's no one around us.

You can literally see the marina just on the other  side over there. So that's the major yaching hub   and then 1 hour later you're here and there's  nobody. It's just it doesn't get any better. To us, every night on Indulgence is special and  we want to make sure the guests feel that. So,

every evening the table is set up differently,  but it always has lights. It has a different table   setting. It has the flowers, but to us, every  night I spend a lot of time making things from   scratch. Um, I don't buy a lot of pre-made stuff.  I don't like, you know, ingredients that are not

clean. So, I I make my own stuff down to ketchup,  mayonnaise. I like to make my own ingredients. We   have homemade pesto for your pasta, roasted  asparagus, and also uh mahi Wellington. Oh, when it's in the light, it was like silver.

Good morning. And this is what I love. It's  very common that in the BVI in the morning,   you don't have any wind and and you wake up and  you have glass water like this and then as the   temperature rises, you start getting the wind  picking up. I got up at 6:30 um cuz I wanted to

get up for the sunrise and the crew was already  up and put a coffee in my hand and here we are. We are anchored just off Virgin Gorda. There isn't  a bad time to come. It's whenever uh whenever you

feel like come down. We're going to make it  very special for you. The weather around here   is absolutely stunning all the time. You might be  windy sometimes, but you know what? Might get some   rain, but that's island rain. Well, we're just uh  going to have a great turn no matter what happens.

Great bottle of dumb from Miss Suzanne. Oh  my goodness. Happy birthday. Happy birthday. Indulgence hour. Indulgence hour. You  have some almond covered dates. You've   got some uh Dijon mustard to go with the  pretzel sticks. A little bit of everything. Welcome to the baths at Virgin Gorda. We're  about to go on a hike through the boulders.

This is where it begins. This place is amazing.  This is a must do on your BBI charter. So, that's   the anchorage right out there, right outside the  rocks. And then you can just swim directly in and   you'll be among all of these boulders. And it's  just a labyrinth you can climb through. You got

like ladders to climb up. Ideal would come in,  you would have lunch. You would hang out on the   boat a little bit, maybe an hour to digest your  lunch and then come in here for the afternoon.   I'm standing in the cathedral at the Bats  National Park. It's just beautiful. Look at this

rainbow sunrise. We're about to go for  dinner. I'm almost ready. High heels. Uh,   no. It's going to be beach wear.  Where we're going tonight, Coco Maya,   is a very famous beach restaurant  and beach bar on Virgin Gorder,   and it's one of our clients favorites. It's uh  the highest recommended by captains in the area.

Why this location is one of the best spots in  the BVI is just over here on the other side is   Nanny Ki and in two hours we were here. We could  go around with the tender to the other side over   there for the baths. The BBI has everything. It's  super diverse from being active in the water,

going on hikes, going to beach bars,  playing on your boat. You got it all. We like to do the videos. Um, you know,  you get to scroll through the videos,   see what you liked, maybe find  out something you don't know,   click on it, give us a call, and then  we can match you with the right boat.
