What to Expect from This Matterhorn Helicopter Flight

This video documents a 20-minute helicopter tour departing from Zermatt, Switzerland, piloted by Air Zermatt. The experience takes you directly from the slopes or town center to the heliport, then into the air for an aerial perspective of the Matterhorn and the surrounding Swiss Alps. Rather than hiking or climbing to get close to the mountain, this flight offers an unobstructed, 360-degree view of one of Europe's most recognizable peaks, along with neighboring summits and glaciers that dwarf the Matterhorn itself.

The tour suits adventure-seekers, photography enthusiasts, and travelers who want to experience the Alps' scale and beauty without technical mountaineering. If you're already in Zermatt for skiing or hiking and have flexibility in your schedule and budget, the video makes a compelling case for booking a seat. Safety is stressed throughout—Air Zermatt's pilots train rescue teams in the Himalayas, reinforcing confidence in the operation.

According to the video creators, yes—if you're going to take one helicopter ride in your life, the Matterhorn is an ideal location to do it. The combination of iconic scenery, pilot expertise, and the once-in-a-lifetime perspective on the Alps justifies the expense for most visitors. Justin’s Take

This video serves as a complete introduction to what a helicopter tour over the Matterhorn actually entails—no overselling, just honest footage of the views, the flight experience, and the price point. It helps you decide whether the investment aligns with your travel goals and budget.

What impressed me most was the segment comparing the Matterhorn to Switzerland's other high peaks and the stark reality of glacier retreat shown through the Gorner Glacier's dramatic shrinkage. The creators' straightforward answer to "Is it worth 230 Francs?"—a simple yes—carries more weight than any promotional material. If you're considering a scenic flight anywhere, this tour is genuinely worth experiencing.

Everyone knows that Zermatt is  a beautiful town.   The wooden chalets are very cute and the slopes are amazing. But what makes it truly special is the silhouette of the Matterhorn that  keeps an eye on everyone in the valley. Either you come for a summer hike or  skiing, the iconic shape attracts your eyes.

The temptation is real: you want  to get really really close to it.  And yes skilifts pass near the Matterhorn or you can even take a dangerous climb to the top, but while snowboarding we saw a beautiful Swiss red helicopter and we figured it out: we need to fly for the best view of the Matterhorn.

From the slopes we went directly to the Air Zermatt heliport and in this video  we show why this experience worth it. Let's fly! [Music]

Let's talk about safety. Where could you trust  more a helicopter than in Switzerland?! Right!   And the Air Zermatt Team trains rescue pilots in the Himalayas, so we felt pretty okay. [Music]

From the Toblerone mountain we  turned to the highest peaks of Switzerland.  The Matterhorn barely fits in the top 10. [Music] It's the home of Switzerland's  second largest glacier. Its area now is around 12 square km that used to be 60 only 50 years ago

Huge difference!!! [Music]

The awesome flight takes 20 minutes. And despite the long applause we did not get an extra round... [Music] Okay let's talk about the elephant in the room. Does it worth 230 Franks??? Our point of view: YES!

It was a lot of fun and if you do one  helicopter ride in your life I could not recommend a better place. You won't regret it. Let us know what you think in the comments and subscribe for other travel stories  in Switzerland and around the world. [Music]
