Overview of the Top 10 Nassau Excursion for First-Time Cruisers
If you're sailing to Nassau, Bahamas on your first cruise, choosing the right shore excursion can make all the difference between feeling overwhelmed and having a genuinely memorable experience. This video follows a cruise family on the "Top 10 Best Sites of Nassau" tour—one of Carnival Cruise Line's ranked top 10 excursions—as they explore the island's historical landmarks, cultural sites, and shopping areas. The video is particularly valuable for first-time cruisers because it shows you exactly what to expect: the boarding process, the pace of the tour, the types of stops you'll make, and how the logistics actually work when you step off the ship.
The tour is approximately 3 hours long and covers multiple destinations via bus, with brief hop-on-and-hop-off stops and some drive-by views. It's beginner-friendly because it's organized entirely through the cruise line, includes a guide who narrates the island's history, and comes with a return-to-ship guarantee. While you'll move quickly between sites, this excursion gives you a solid introduction to Nassau's character without the stress of planning transportation and navigation on your own.

Fort Charlotte — the largest fort on the island, built in 1787 and featuring a notable torture chamber, with stories about how enslaved workers took 16 years to excavate it by hand
Royal Victoria Hotel ruins — remnants of an opulent 1861 hotel that once hosted the wealthy and famous, with the original nameplate still visible

What to Know Before Booking This Nassau Excursion
Duration: Approximately 3 hours total, though you'll need to factor in time to meet your tour group at the cruise terminal
Booking method: Book directly through your cruise line rather than independently; this ensures a return-to-ship guarantee and organized safety, though it costs slightly more than booking outside the ship
What to bring: Government-issued ID, your ship card (also called sign card), and your mobile phone; these are required when disembarking and re-boarding
Back-on-board time: You must note and strictly adhere to your return time; late returns from individual guests delay the entire bus and can jeopardize the ship's departure schedule
Pace of stops: Expect quick stops (8–10 minutes each); you may feel slightly rushed, but this is intentional so the tour can cover all 10 sites within the 3-hour window
Port accessibility: Nassau's cruise terminal has multiple birth positions; if docked farther out, trams and golf carts are available, though scooter accessibility beyond the port area is limited
Best for first-timers: This excursion is highly recommended if it's your first cruise, as it familiarizes you with disembarking, following group logistics, and the experience of a guided shore tour with the safety net of your cruise line's guarantee
Frequently Asked Questions About This Nassau Shore Tour
Is this excursion available only with Carnival Cruise Line?
No. The video's description notes that this "Top 10 of Nassau" excursion is available with most cruise lines, not just Carnival. However, the family in the video booked it through Carnival, so specific details and pricing may vary by cruise line.
Can I do this tour independently instead of booking through the ship?
You can book similar tours independently, and they are typically cheaper. However, the video recommends booking through your cruise line for first-timers because it includes a return-to-ship guarantee, organized group logistics, safety oversight, and peace of mind if anything goes wrong.
What is the Rum Cake Factory stop like, and do I have to buy something?
The Rum Cake Factory is a 10-minute shopping stop where you can sample Bahamian rum cakes for free. If you purchase enough cakes, the shop will offer you a complimentary shot of rum. Buying is optional, but sampling is encouraged as it's one of the tour's most popular stops.
Can I add an Atlantis Resort day pass to this tour?
Yes. The tour includes a drive-by view of Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island, and you can purchase day passes on-site or through your cruise ship excursion desk. Aqua Venture (water park and aquarium access) day passes range around $60 depending on which package you choose, though ship-booked passes typically include transportation.
What if I'm not comfortable walking or have mobility challenges?
Within the cruise terminal area, trams and golf carts are available for guests with mobility challenges. However, once on the tour, individual stops require some walking (for example, the Queen's Staircase involves climbing or descending steps). Nassau as a whole is not necessarily the most accessible destination outside the port, so this tour may be challenging if you have significant mobility limitations.
This video is genuinely helpful for first-time cruisers who feel anxious about choosing a Nassau excursion. The presenter has visited Nassau 25 times, so she provides honest perspective on the pace, the crowds, and what to realistically expect. She doesn't oversell the experience but explains clearly why it's a solid choice for newcomers—you get history, culture, shopping, and a taste of the island all while staying within the safety framework of your cruise line.
What stands out most is how the video shows the actual logistics: finding your tour sign at the port, boarding the bus, the brief stops with real timing, and the guide's personality and storytelling. That authenticity matters because it lets you decide if you're comfortable with moving quickly between stops or if you'd prefer an independent exploration. For first-time cruisers weighing their options, this is a solid, beginner-friendly choice worth booking.

All right, guys. Good morning. It is day three on board Carnival Glory, and we are here in beautiful Nassau, Bahamas. Now, guys, I have literally been here 25 times. Um, so today we are getting off the ship, but we are going to be doing a tour that is going to be designed for firsttime cruisers. Now, I did this tour
probably one of our first times in Nassau, but I think it's kind of nice to go back and highlight it for you new cruisers, so you kind of get an idea or get a feel for Nassau. Now, this is the top 10 best sites of Nassau. Um, I did book this directly through Carnival. So, as a first-time cruiser, highly
encourage you to book your shore excursions through the cruise line because it's going to come with a return to ship guarantee. It's also going to have a uh like a um guarantee that you're going to have a really good time and it's just kind of safety and being with somebody from the ship, people from
the ship, and it being organized through the ship. Now, they are slightly more expensive than if you were to book it outside of the ship, but again, I do encourage it if you are a first-time cruiser. So, we're going to check out the top 10 of NASA. Again, I've already been here. I've already done this, but I
want to highlight it for our first-time cruisers. That way, you guys have an idea of what to expect in Nassau. But first things first, we're going to go ahead and grab some Blue Iguana. >> Hello. Hello. And Blue Iguana is our favorite spot on board. It's included. They have the best
breakfast burritos. And it's included. >> Did you say the best burgers? >> The best breakfast burritos. >> Oh, >> and then they have this salsa bar here with all your toppings. >> And fresh watermelon. >> And this is something new that I've never seen on Carnival. Don donuts and
beignets. It's kind of interesting. Yeah, >> first time seeing that. >> We'll try it maybe tomorrow. >> And here's another pro tip for you. If you are a first- time cruiser with Carnival, a lot of times the Leo deck buffet areas will have an upstairs. Everyone will crowd.
Everyone will crowd downstairs, but if you just get your food and come upstairs, if there's a Some of the ships don't have a second level, but if you're on one of the Conquest class ships or an older ship, a lot of times they will have an upstairs level. A lot of people don't realize that. And you can actually
dine here. So, just grab your food and come upstairs and you can beat the crowd and find seats together >> and get blue iguana. >> And get blue iguana. All right. So, here we are in beautiful Nassau and we have Carnival Freedom right beside us. We'll be on Carnival Freedom in February. That funnel caught
fire. Yep. So, we're going to get off. Thankfully, we don't have a very long walk. Now, Nassau's uh cruise terminal can hold like 8 to 10 ships and so we're actually docked in the second birth, which is really nice. So, we just have a short walk right there. Um, so if you are visiting Nassau and let's say you
are docked at one of the further births, they do have trams or um, golf carts that'll get those who, you know, have challenges walking to the entrance. Um, but as far as mobility and scooters and things like that in Nassau, it's not necessarily the most accessible, so keep that in mind. But you can kind of get
around in this newer port area. I do have some other vlogs showing that Newport area where they have some shops, some restaurants, and then there's a beach, Junkano, that is about a 20-minut walk from the cruise terminal. Free beach. You can just uh rent chairs, umbrellas. Nice spot to go to if you
just want to experience the beach here in Nassau. We're going to go ahead and get off and experience the top 10 of Nassau. All right, so make sure you make note of the back on board time. You have to be back on board by that time. You also want to make sure that you have your sign and cell card as well as your
government issued ID when it's time to get off the ship. And here we are in Nassau. >> Good morning. Good morning. All right. So, once you get off, um you're going to want to look for the name of your tour. Our tour is Top 10 of Nassau. So, we're just going this way to see.
Here it is. Top 10 best deaths of Nassau. All right. So, we're already ready to go. We have our wristbands on. Again, make sure you have your government issued ID, your uh sign and cell card, all of that. Um, now if you um start watching other vlogs or if you've already watched other vlogs, you
probably know that I don't tend to do ship excursions um only because sometimes you're kind of in crowds and it's not, you know, sometimes you're waiting a little bit longer than you should. But um again, I do recommend this for first- time cruisers just so you get a feel of getting on and off the
ship, having the excursions, um and having that safety. So, um, we're here waiting until we start making our walk towards the entrance and then we'll load our bus and we're going to catch these top 10 different spots in NASA. Now, this is a bus tour that's going to allow us to hop on and off um at certain
points. Um, part of it, too, is just driving by certain areas. So, we'll see. It's been a while. It's probably been 3 years, four years since I've done this tour. So, we'll see how it's changed. >> All right. So, as you see, all of these people are doing the top 10 of Nassau. Everyone here, but of course, we'll be
on different buses. All right, we are finally on the move. Long live. And see, I don't think I ever recall Carnival having a duck. >> You ever seen a duck? >> I just saw this cruise. >> On this cruise. Okay.
Somebody quickly. Let's go to the lake forward. Okay, just put it forward. >> Good morning everybody. >> Morning >> folks. Welcome to the island and welcome on board. My name is Joe. So good to be
your driver today and hopefully a very competent, very worthy navigator. I'm going to be Miss Muna. She's going to keep me on the straight and narrow. Make sure I don't go a muk or for that matter get lost. I got a funny feeling, however, at the end of the tour she'll be saying, "Joe, get lost."
>> Folks, today we're doing a very quick tour, very concise, right to the point, roughly about 3 hours. Today we'll be checking out some of the historical sites in the city like Yes. Fort Finn Castle, the Queen staircase. Yes. Along with many, many other stops in 1929. It was placed there to honor the brave
souls from the colony at the time who would have served in World War I. If we fast forward to World War II, we had almost 700 individuals left the colony one more time to fight alongside the British in the European theater. You'll see coming up here on the left hand side steps that lead to nowhere. The main
buildings start at top of the hill here. Yes. Unfortunately, that was destroyed by fire many, many years ago. Still remaining however is the original name plaque that was placed there in 1861. And that is when the Royal Victoria Hotel opened its doors for the first time. If I can use the words ritzy,
fancy, opulent hotel to stay at back in the old days. It is where you would have stayed. The rich, the famous, those who are affluent back in the old days. They were the only ones who could afford to travel. It was a very expensive thing to do. Uh, by the way, at the western end of the channel is Fort Charlotte. Fort
is quite a formidable fort that you had to reckon with back in the old days. the largest one on the island. It was built back in 1787. It came fully equipped even with a torture chamber. It took some 600 slaves 16 years to excavate that area using just ordinary hand implements. Even
though they had access to explosives, they did not give it to them to use for obvious reasons. And so what you would do if the main township below was invaded, you would use the various track roads to get to the queen staircase to get over the ridge quickly for your safety. Suppose you're going to have 10
minutes, 10 minutes to take a look at the queen staircase. I'll please see you back at the bus. >> All right. So this was literally like a 5minut stop. So um sometimes with these quick, you know, top 10 tours, the stops are going to be pretty quick. So he said we had 10 minutes, but it was really
like 8 minutes by the time we got off the bus. So, just know that you might feel a little bit rushed sometimes, but again, it's going to give you a quick overview of the island. >> You sure you want me to give them a tongue lashing? >> Yes. Yes. Yes. >> And when you get away with it the first
time, if you need anywhere, >> my good folks, I would like to give you a very stern admonishment. I would like you to please be mindful of the time that is given to get back to the bus. We have several stops to make. If you decide to come back to the bus each and every time, 10 15 minutes late,
at the end of it, we are late an hour getting back to the port. And for I should have said, "Shame on you men. Shame on you. You sent a woman to keep the bus hostage." Oh boy. Folks, let us continue on. All right, we are here at the rum cake factory. Uh, you guys already know what
I feel about this. This is the best Bahamian rum cake. Um, we have a 10-minute stop here to sample and to purchase. And usually if you purchase enough rum cakes, they'll let give you a shot of rum. Um, so yeah, we're here. My favorite spot in Nassau, Lickor.
Go ahead and get a sample. >> I want to buy. How much are they? >> Get a sample. At least you want to get the original pecan to the top. Amord to the bottom. >> Okay. Can we have one without nuts for him?
>> Amord. It's very crowded in here, so got to move fast. >> All right. I can technically get a shot at run, but it's too hot for all that today. We're not going to do that. What you will find in my country around these many many islands is the waters around them happens to be fairly shallow. Hence the
name Bahama which pretty much means shallow seas. >> However, by contrast over to my left and about 40 mi away sits the largest island by far in my country, Andras Island. Between Andrew's Island and the Providence Islands sits a body of water known as the tongue of the ocean. It
happens to be some of the deepest waters on Earth. Now, it may not be as deep as the Mariana Trench, but as far as ocean depth is concerned at the seafloor, it is extremely deep. Folks, in the background here on Paradise Island, you will see a beige hotel. It has the national flag at top. That is the coral
towers at the Atlantis. The coral towers came along with the sister hotels, the Bratana Towers and beach towers back in 1967. And it's a four night minimum. Kishna went on to build a worldass uh water theme park, aquarium, marina, shopping areas. Eventually the other hotels you saw left further west on
Paradise Island, the Cove, the reef. He put in a lot of uh upgrade infrastructure here on the island and also improved the overall aesthetics of the island. Today, the Atlantis is a very powerful magnet that attract tourists to this destination. And still today, by the way, happens to be the
largest private employer in the country. The last time I checked, they had a staff complement of over 7,000 employees. They play a very fundamental role to the overall economy here in my country. >> So, yeah. So, you can get a day pass to Atlantis if you choose. Sometimes the cruise ship excursions will offer it
where you get access to the water park and all of that. Um, they can be kind of expensive, like $200 per person. So, keep that in mind. But, we're just off to explore a little bit of the casino area. >> All right. So, here's where you purchase your Atlantis. Yeah. >> Oh, thank you. We appreciate it.
>> You're on what ship? >> Oh, okay. Yeah. >> Hey, I didn't like us yesterday and today because the numbers are like more likely going for the rest of the week. >> So, here are the prices. The Edge Beach Reserve beach access aquarium pass 6. We might do that one day, but I have yet to
go to the aquarium here. There's the Aqua Venture day pass. Now, if you get it from the ship, it's going to come with transportation. So, all right, let's go in. Best stop to go to the restroom. So, we'll do that as well.
So, lots of shops and things. They're kind of like a little mall. Then you can get to the casino. Looks like casino's back that way. Come on. Let's walk this way first. Joe. Joe Marie. Let's walk this way. Now, because we're not staying at Atlantis, we don't we get very, very little access to see the property. It's
really just these shops where you can spend money. The shops, the casino, uh stop by the restroom. You're not really going to see much. All right, here's the lobby of Atlantis. >> And what's kind of funny is we just watched the recent media movie. This is where they filmed um them coming in for
their stay here at Atlantis. If you guys kind of Which media was that? >> They get married or destination wedding. destination wedding. Yeah, this is where they this is where they filmed it at. So, it's kind of cool to see. And speaking of it, there you have it. Says Atlantis makes its Netflix debut.
That's kind of cool. So, yeah, this is a really, really nice property. Maybe one day we'll come out here and stay. Really nice. And this is just a small portion of it. think you guys will want to come maybe check out this resort one day. >> Yes. >> Yeah. We have yet to do a family resort.
So, >> we'll see. We'll see. >> We've done a family store. >> No, not not >> No, I mean like where we stayed like for a few days. That would be cool, huh? Yeah. All right. And here is the casino. There's no filming in there, so we're not going to film. But you can check out the casino and press your luck. There's
not many people in there pressing their luck, though. It looks kind of empty. So, we're going to walk out to the marina and then we are going to head back to our bus cuz that was a very short stop. >> Yeah. All these mega yachts. Amazing. >> It's a yacht. >> Yeah, these are very expensive.
>> Weird. I don't like that. >> Watch your step. But you can get a cruise with water slides and stuff. >> Remember the yachts are for rich rich people. >> I'm not rich. >> No, we're not rich. >> These are like millions of dollars. >> Zero dollars. >> Like millions >> and cruises cost like 500.
>> You have no clue how much cruises cost. >> But yeah, these are super expensive. >> They're cheaper than this. >> Like a light blue, light yellow, uh light green, peach orange. Yeah. It's all because of that. pink color being a pastel color. Let me go please with the long version of the story. I promise you
I'll bring it home eventually. That pink business, my good folks, first got started all the way back in the Middle Ages. If you remember the very first set of settlers coming in, the illuteran adventurers in 1646. Yes, they are the culprits that started this pink business. When they first came
to the colony, they almost starved. They couldn't quite get agriculture going in a meaningful way to sustain themselves. But being highly creative, they were able to go into the local forestry and they found a plant called the Brasalito. The Brasalito is known for having a very rich red sap. And what they did
initially was to convert that sap into a very high quality red dye. And they shipped that dye off into very large into very uh in very large quantities to the New England area where they would batter and get supplies into the colony until they could sustain themselves. By the way, one of the entities they bred
with would have been Howard University. Howard University was able to sell that highquality red dye and the proceeds went to help construct the library at that very prestigious university. corner of downtown there is a church over here on the left hand side is the only kirk in the country St. Andrew's
Presbyterian, an old church out of Scotland going back little over 200 years. Folks, if you please look on the left hand side, when I pass the junction, you will see Greg Research. That is the official entrance into my city. Like the street names, say Market Street, it took you down to the market.
Back of that in the old days would have been primarily farmland. Today is a highly developed industrious area. Over on the left hand side, another pink building, trim white, and this is where the governor general resides. It is the person who represents the very king of England. Yes, indeed, it is the highest
post in the land, the governor general here in the Bahamas. I am proud to say, yes, in the last two decades alone, it has been a female, a job that was held by a male for almost three centuries. Today the governor general, a beautiful lady and we call her mother because she's like a mother to each and every
one of us. A fine example of a Bohemian woman, mother Centier Pratt. In her young days, she served as a member of parliament. Even at one time the DPM in her old days, she now sits in the highest seat. City going back almost 300 years. Today, it is owned by an Italian family, the Gaza. It's a fine place for
dining in the city of Nassau. If you had a chance to go on the inside and peruse some of their books, their guest books that were signed, you will recognize quite a few of the names. If I may drop one name, Oprey, she has a home on Paradise Island. She comes to town, there's a very good chance you will see
her dining here one or two nights. Grey Cliff brags about having one of the world's largest collections of wines in one place. The whole entire bottom of this building is a wine seller. They said they have over 200,000 bottles. Some of the vintages go back to the early 1700s. Boy, I tell you that's
their new policy. But let me see what I can do here. I think I can. Navigator. I can squeeze right here. >> You? Yeah. >> You think so? >> I think so. >> What does she say? So, I'm going to try to squeeze right here. You sure? >> The way you drive. Yeah. >> Like a maniac. I thought you was a mama.
>> Hold on. Come on. Get in front of me. Go that way. Watch your step. Come on. All right. So, we're here at the winery and then Grey Cliff's Chocolates on the other side. We're here for 15 minutes.
So they said that um this winery has uh the most variety of wine anywhere. 2200 bottles um all different varieties. So kind of cool. >> Yeah.
>> Which one? Oh yeah. >> Walk over towards this way. All right guys, very narrow street so be very careful. And then we have the Bahama Ghost Tour by Great Cliff and then the Chocolier is down this way
I believe. Not really sure. We were here before. Let's come over here, guys. >> And you can book this as a separate tour as well. >> I don't know.
>> We have to have all kinds of things you can buy. Yeah. >> No, it's too hot for that.
They do have a bunch of baked goods. A little bit of ice cream. We're not getting ice cream because it's going to melt too fast.
And you can even come here and make your own handmade chocolate. That's a tour that they offer. H. You can try the chocolate he has up there. Look up on the counter. >> Hello.
>> Want to try? No nuts. >> No nuts. Thank you. It's dark chocolate. >> Yeah. And if you didn't get a chance to grab your rum cake, they have it here. I just don't know if they're cheap. Let's see.
They don't have price. over there. >> You know, I'm guessing my way here. Okay. >> I only could have gone one way, so I came that way, but I think we're going to the west now, right? You agree on
that? To the west. Yep. Yeah, we go to the west. Okay. >> One way. Two east and two west. >> Ah, man. I'm liking that. I'm liking that balance is good. That is very good. Got to have balance in life. I believe in that. So yes. And we are going now to John Watland's distillery. The
government take education very seriously. But it's unfortunate these kids today they are not taking it as serious like they should. I think we are faltering. And another major problem we have in the country is brain drain. Unfortunately, too many students go abroad for higher education and they
don't come back to bring that knowledge to help build and propel the country forward. I cry, shame on them, by the way. Folks, we are now here at John Watland's Distillery. Straight ahead at the cannon, take a left, turn up the steps that will take you into the foyer, the entrance of John
Watland's there. They have a tour. You can do the tour enough time. You have sufficient time. Also, when you get to the foyer, they're going to present you with a shot of their alcohol or some concoction with the alcohol infused into it. Folks, if you want to go directly to the bar, yes, once you get in the foyer,
there's a corridor to the right that will take you right to the bar. You have a chance to wet your whistle, folks. We're going to have 15 minutes here. We're going to call it exactly what it is, 12:28. >> All right, so now we are here at the rum distillery. We have 15 minutes. So,
there's a quick tour inside and get a sample of uh rum. There's a bar inside and we've been here before. So, we're just going to do a quick walk through. >> Welcome. Welcome you guys to the tour today. >> Uh just walking through. >> All right. Well, go ahead and take your time. >> Enjoy.
>> Joe Marie. Oh yeah, we can walk through all these different here's the bar.
I was going to get a drink, but it looks like it's kind of long. >> It's a very pleasant aroma. It's a very nice aromatic tea. Very refreshing. A very nice pleasant taste. I can see you adding cream and sugar to this one. Not the first one. Please get a whiff of this and pass it back. Also, once again,
the leaf of a lime tree. Not a bush medicine, just aromatic tea. Very refreshing herbal therapy. Yes. Before I continue on with bush medicine, let me quickly talk about that yellow building on the right hand side. That is one of a handful of junk museums in my city. There's a main one at the port. That one
there I believe in their small way is given really showing a big way of what Junkanoo is really all about. They show you how they build the costumes and how they make some of the musical instruments that we play in Junkanu. I'm getting ahead of myself. What is Junkanu? J U N K A N O O. Junkanu is
like carnival and madigra all wrapped into one but like on steroids. It is 100 times more livelier. The main events are held Boxing Day, that's December 26, also a public holiday. It really starts Christmas night at about 10:00 p.m. and go on the following morning until about 10 a.m. and rightfully named Love Vine.
Men, you want to drink that bush tea for about 6 to 7 days, and on the seventh eighth night, you'll have a hard time sleeping on your stomach. It is a beautiful bush medicine for that purpose. The 21 gun salute. We are now at the craft market. Uh here you'll be able to buy some sveners.
Folks, I want you to also be aware there is a major craft market at the beginning of downtown. When I get back to the port with you, literally it's a minute walk to get back to it. So, if you can't get your shopping in here, you can do it when you get back to the city. opening. >> All right, so we are at Port Charlotte.
>> World famous straw market. >> We're not going to shop today, but you can pick up some Bohemian goods here. >> We're just going to go over here. >> We're just going to go over here, check out this view from the fort. And there's also another straw market. um maybe 10 minutes, not even 10 minutes
from from the port entrance. Um so about yeah, about 10 minutes or so. Um so if you want to go to that one, that one is probably more popular. There's not a whole lot. I mean, there's a lot of vendors here, but it's not as many people. Um so assuming prices might be a little bit higher, but let's check out
this uh uh fort. >> We're fine. Thank you. >> Stepped on a rock. >> And look, there's a time capsule here. says, "The Commonwealth of the Bahamas time capsule. When will this open?" It says it'll open in 25 years. In 2049 during the country's Diamond Jubilee Independence Celebration. So 2049. We'll
>> So that means this was Oh, this was just put out last year then. Right. Is my math right? >> Yeah. I don't know what you're looking at. >> Yeah. So that means 2024 this was put out. >> We'll still be alive. Prayerfully. Prayerfully we'll still be alive. That's the plan. >> 24.
>> 2049. >> In 24 years. >> 24 years. >> How old will I be in 24 years? I'll be 35. >> You'll be 35 and I'll be old. >> Oh, you have to pay to go in here. Says ticketing and entrance. So, it currently costs $2.20 to go up
the fort. So, just paid that um $220. But check out these views. I'm not sure why it costs. But these amazing views here. All right. All right. So, I think we have one more stop, which is going to be a quick beach stop. Now, he did say that
um they were going to kind of drive through the um fish fry area, which is just an area that has like local vendors um where you can get some um fried fish, but also all kinds of other Bohemian um dishes and things. Um it's about a 25minut walk from the fish fry back to the ship. You can catch a taxi. So,
there are a couple people I think that might stay there, but you can also get off at Junko Beach cuz we'll still have about 3 or 4 hours in port when this tour ends. So, you don't necessarily have to go back to the ship. Just make sure you have a way to get back to the ship because once you end your uh cruise
line sponsored excursion and say you decide to leave the tour, you're now responsible for getting yourself back and on time because now the return to ship guarantee no longer works. So, just keep that in mind. But, we're going to get off as soon as we get back to the ship cuz we're getting hungry. Um, so
we're going to go back to the to the ship to eat >> and get one. >> So she just gave us a ticket. So yeah, it is $2. So I guess the 20 cents maybe the tax. So it says tour includes Fort Charlotte complex. There's really nothing there. There's not even like any signage giving you any history or like
no true tour. So >> cost $2. >> Yeah, unless you don't want to I mean unless you just want to get some views. I wouldn't necessarily pay for that again because there's really nothing there. No history, no information. just a fort. I would also say make sure you use caution when you're buying things
because some things are made in China. Uh so just kind of ask around, look around and verify flavor and crispiness at the edges and then you know you got yourself a real authentic Bahamian meal. On the left hand side below Fort Charlotte is Hannes Oval. That is where they played the national sport for
centuries. However, cricket never caught on here in the Bahamas with the citizenry. It is something that was held back from being an English colony. What is big in my country is sailing. As a matter of fact, just last year, the government finally acquies and made sailing the national sport of the
Bahamas. Not to be braggadocious, but the Bahamas got its very first gold medal at the Olympic level back in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. be able to bring home the gold medal in star class sailing. Sailing is big in my country. It's a no-brainer being a country of mostly water. Any given month, you will
find a regard going on somewhere here in my country. So, yes indeed, my good folks, we are now passing through the fish fry area. Once again, a very, very popular behemian eery. You see this restaurant coming up here on the left hand side. O Andress yellow and red. Yeah. Look like a hole in the wall kind
of place. But in my humble opinion, it is the best restaurant at the fish fry. You know why I love them? They kept it down home. They do the food the way my grandparents did it in the old days. These other places have become tourist traps and they kind of water it down to suit a foreign taste bud. If you want it
done the way, do it at home. O Andress is number one. I highly recommend them. We are now finally making our way to our very last stop, Junkanoo Beach. And folks, it's just for a quick photo op. Get yourself a photo or two and then we'll head back to the port. Folks, over there, the water was a bit
choppy. It wasn't as calm and as clear as it normally would be, but ordinarily you can see right down to the seafloor very, very easily here in the country. The waters are very clear. That is one of the charms of the Bahamas all around the country. Just beautiful beaches. And folks, it is being brought to our
attention that many of our tourists believe that there is such a thing as a private beach here in the Bahamas. I want you to know every single beach in my country is a public beach. Do not let them dup you. Even if you own a private island here in the Bahamas, like some folks do, if I
may drop a name or two, uh, Bill Gates, you have a island in the Abacos, uh, David Copperfield, the cruise ship companies, and many, many others own individual keys or islands in my country, but the coastal area around that island or key or waterfront area is still public domain. And oh boy, she's
alive today. There is a national flag, the aquamarine gold and black. That tall band, my good folks, represent the blue skies of my country. Any given year in the Bahamas, we expect no less than 300 days of sunshine. The average main temperature, a fairly warm, balmy 87.5° F. On annual basis, we get anywhere
between 47 and 67 in of rain. Most of that is during the summer and fall, but we do get rain throughout the year. That lower blue bar in my flag represent the blue waters of my country. And let me be quick to say it is not the Caribbean Sea. You are not quite in the Caribbean yet. The waters you see around my
country is still the Atlantic Ocean. Allow me to please stick a pin in the flag momentarily. Over here on the left hand side is a sad part of our history. This would have been the gateway for most of my ancestors into the colony at the time. The slave west of Africa came right to the back of that building to
offload their human cargo of slaves to be auctioned off. It was a auction house to work on the cotton plantations here in the Bahamas. Today you see it as a museum. It is named after a slave Pompei who rebelled for his freedom. As we pass the world famous straw market, let me please continue with the national flag.
That gold in my flag, it represents once again the abundance of sunshine, also the wealth of the land and sea. And that small black triangle is big. Black they say being a strong bold color, it represent the strength, the vigor, determination, and integrity of the people here in the Bahamas.
All right, and we are back in port with Time to Spare. Now, there are a lot of shops, restaurants, all kinds of things right here where they drop you off, you can even go back inside the port area to shop. Um, but we're going to get back on the ship. Now, this tour may not be for
everyone, but if again, if you are new to Nassau, want to get some history and kind of just see, get a feel for the island. Now, this is only part of the island. If you go further out, that's where you're going to have your beach resorts and the real scenic area. So, this is just a small snapshot of Nassau.
Um, again, it may not work for everyone, but if you just want the information, then this would be a perfect tour for you, especially as a first-time cruiser. But we are headed back to the ship. Going to grab some lunch and enjoy the rest of our day. >> Oh, yeah.
