What This Helicopter Tour Over Universal Orlando Reveals

This video captures an aerial tour of the entire Universal Orlando Resort as it appeared in summer 2014, filmed entirely from a helicopter using a camcorder. The footage provides a bird's-eye view of both Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure theme parks, showing how the two properties sit within the greater Orlando landscape. If you've ever wondered what the resort looks like from above—or want to see the layout and scale of the attractions you love from a completely different vantage point—this video delivers exactly that perspective.

A helicopter tour like this suits travelers who want a unique memory of their visit, aerial photography enthusiasts, theme park planners trying to understand the resort geography, or anyone curious about the relationship between the two parks and the city around them. The experience is particularly appealing if you're already planning a Universal trip and want to see something beyond ground level.

Standout Views During the Flight

  • Aerial perspective of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter—Diagon Alley, showing how this new land was integrated into Universal Studios at the time
  • Complete overview of both Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure side by side from above
  • Wide shots of the resort's layout, buildings, attractions, and surrounding area from a height impossible to see on foot
  • Clear views of how the two parks connect and relate spatially to each other
  • Footage showing the scale of theme park infrastructure, parking areas, and resort grounds

Practical Details to Know Before Booking

  • Tour operators typically limit helicopter tours to small groups due to aircraft capacity, so booking in advance is recommended to secure a spot
  • The video was filmed on a camcorder; watching in 1080p full-screen provides the best quality to see fine details of the parks and surrounding area
  • June conditions in Florida mean heat and potential for afternoon thunderstorms; clear morning flights are often preferable for both visibility and comfort
  • Helicopter tours involve noise and vibration inside the aircraft; expect communication to be limited during flight
  • Your view will depend partly on which side of the aircraft you're seated—discuss seating options when booking if specific attractions matter to you
  • Tours from this period show the resort as it existed in 2014; attractions and landscaping may have changed since then

Questions Frequently Asked About This Type of Tour

How long does a typical helicopter tour over Universal last?

The video does not specify exact flight duration, but aerial tours of theme parks typically range from 15 to 45 minutes depending on the operator and package selected. Check with your booking company for the specific length of time you'll be airborne.

Is this tour safe for people with motion sickness?

Helicopters are generally stable in calm conditions, but the constant vibration and movement can trigger motion sickness in some people. If you're prone to motion sensitivity, consult your tour operator about seating options and consider medication before your flight.

What's the best time of day to take a helicopter tour?

Morning flights typically offer clearer skies, better lighting for photos and video, and fewer afternoon thunderstorms—particularly important in Florida during summer. Early bookings also tend to have more availability.

Can I bring a camera on the helicopter tour?

Most operators allow personal cameras and smartphones for photography, though policies vary. The video was filmed on a camcorder, so filming your own tour is generally permitted. Always confirm with your specific tour company before departure.

Will I see everything from the helicopter, or just the major attractions?

A helicopter tour provides broad aerial coverage of the resort layout and overall landscape. You'll see the scale and geography of both parks clearly, but fine details of specific attractions may be harder to distinguish from altitude. The video shows this wide perspective rather than close-up views of individual rides.

Justin’s Take

This video is genuinely helpful if you want to see what Universal Orlando looks like from the air before committing to booking your own tour. The full-length footage gives you a real sense of the flight route, the spatial relationship between the two parks, and what you can actually see and photograph from a helicopter.

What stands out most is the unobstructed aerial perspective of Diagon Alley and the surrounding resort infrastructure—something no ground-level visit can show you. If you're a theme park enthusiast, aerial photographer, or someone who loves seeing familiar places from completely new angles, this is well worth your time, and I'd genuinely recommend booking a helicopter tour review before making your decision.
