What to Know Before Packing These Cruise Cabin Hacks

  • Most cruise lines allow USB hubs, though Royal Caribbean may restrict them—check your cruise line's policy in advance
  • Magnetic solutions work on metal walls but not all cabin walls; test them immediately upon boarding
  • Pack a travel-size hamper or use an empty suitcase under the bed as a laundry container for multi-day cruises
  • Packing cubes work best if you choose not to fully unpack; they keep outfits or family members' belongings separated
  • Clear toiletry bags allow you to see contents at a glance and some are TSA-approved for air travel liquids
  • Long charging cables (around 4 feet) solve the problem of outlets positioned far from your bed or desk
  • Bring multiple types of sticky notes and pens to leave messages for your room steward or cabin mates

Frequently Asked Questions About Cruise Cabin Organization

Why should I pack extra hangers if the cruise line provides them?

Cruise ship closets are notoriously undersized with few hangers. Packing foldable hangers or S-hooks lets you hang more items without taking up extra space—S-hooks are especially useful for jeans, shorts, and pants since they don't require traditional hanging loops.

What's the benefit of using packing cubes on a cruise?

Packing cubes let you organize by person, day, or clothing type and slide directly into drawers without unpacking. On shorter cruises, you can leave everything in the cubes for the entire trip, saving time and keeping your cabin neater. You can also color-code them for quick identification.

Can I use magnetic solutions in any cruise cabin?

Magnetic hooks and clips work only on metal walls, which most cruise cabins have, but some newer ships use different wall materials. Test your magnets immediately after boarding to confirm they hold; if they don't stick, use the wall space differently or rely on other organizing methods.

How do I handle laundry during a cruise without using the ship's laundry service?

The video suggests packing sink suds or small packets of Tide detergent to hand-wash items like swimsuits, socks, or light clothing in your cabin sink. This is ideal for quick rinses without paying for formal laundry or finding a laundromat.

Are clear toiletry bags worth packing?

Yes—clear bags let you see everything at a glance, and some TSA-approved options are removable, meaning you can use them during your cruise and still comply with airport security on the way home. They also prevent the common problem of not remembering what you packed or running out of something mid-trip.

Justin’s Take

This video is genuinely helpful because it goes beyond the tired advice about magnets and under-bed suitcases. The creator thinks through real cabin pain points—weak bathroom clotheslines, tiny closets, vanities with poor lighting—and shows specific, affordable products that actually work. Many of the hacks are solutions you wouldn't think of on your own, like using S-hooks to hang pants vertically or sliding a hanging packing cube into the closet to create floating shelves.

What impressed me most was the balance between organization tricks and the products that enable them. Rather than telling you to "be creative with what you have," the video acknowledges that cruise cabins are genuinely cramped and provides real solutions you can order before you sail. If you've felt frustrated by clutter on past cruises, this will change how you pack and live aboard.

hey Cruisers today I'm sharing 25 Cruise cabin hacks that you may not have heard of before we're going beyond the usual tips you've heard about like using magnets to keep things on your walls and sliding your suitcase under the bed let's step inside the room and we're going to go from the balcony to the

bathroom to the vanity and everything in between to teach you some hacks one of my favorite Cruise finds of the last year are these cool little clothes pins that have a hook on them they're handy for so many different things like drying your swimsuit really quickly now we don't recommend that you

leave swimsuits or anything out on your balcony while the ship is moving like this but when you're in PT if you have a couple of hours and some bright Sun you could use these to hook a swimsuit up to the back of a chair or a lounger but before you do that another tip for you take your beach towel that the cruise

line provides to you roll the swimsuit up inside of it and get rid of that additional moisture cruise ship closets are famous for not having enough hangers so we started packing a few of these extra hangers to use and they come in really handy they're just a nice traditional clothes hanger and the

benefit is that they have this little hook right here it helps things to stop from sliding but I think I found something that is even better for your closet and it is these S hooks I love using these little guys for things like jeans and pants anything that has a hook or shorts you just take it like this and

slide it right on into the closet and you have have your jeans and your shorts nicely tucked away just like that if you haven't heard of packing cubes they're like the little superhero of the packing world we love using these for cruises and a lot of times what we'll do is take our packing cubes and

just slide them right on in to our drawers just like this that way you never really have to unpack and everything stays nice and organized another thing that you can do is color code your packing cubes by family M by day however you want to do it there's a little bit of room for creativity there

we've recently discovered something new too you guys they have these hanging packing Cube systems that you can use they're really neat I bought the one called pack gear and this little guy is so clever if you have a shortage of drawer space or shelf space in your cruise State Room you can use these to

create hanging shelves in the closets really neat invention not right for every single cruise ship cabin but if you know that you're going to be short on shelf space these are something awesome to invest in most cruise ship accommodations have some sort of a desktop or vanity area but they all vary

quite a bit the lighting can sometimes be excellent and other times it's really poor so I like to pack some kind of a travel mirror for getting a little bit more of a close-up when I do my makeup sometimes if the lighting is an issue I'll also use a lit tableside mirror that works nicely for applying my makeup

but I like this one because it folds into my makeup bag and it has some really serious magnification on one side another thing that I always take with me on a cruise these days anyhow we'll see if they continue to get banned on certain cruise lines are these USB hubs we've been utilizing these for years as

far as we know most cruise lines are still allowing USB hubs with the exception possibly of Royal Caribbean so you might want to be careful about that but you can use these at your desktop or Vandy or beds or wherever you have that AC plug to charge all of your USB and usually USBC devices these are really

handy if your room Steward leaves drinking glasses of any sort in your room you can use them to organize stuff like hand sanitizing wipes your pens things like that it's also a great idea to bring a couple of different types of sticky notes on your cruise I love all of these usually you can just buy them

at Walmart Target on Amazon they're sticky on the back you can leave little notes for your room Steward like if you need more ice or some more pillows or more towels it comes in really handy or you can leave little notes for the folks in your room if you are to leave and go run an errand and you want everyone to

know that you'll be right back I also recommend packing a variety of different pens with you on a cruise a standard ballpoint pen a Sharpie is always nice and a highlighter if you're going to have traditional cruise ship newsletters where you can highlight the daily activities I'm old school and I still

like my highlighter fancy Ziploc bags and traditional basic ones work great for packing items and keeping them organized around your stateroom I like to put a variety of things inside of these oftentimes I'll put medication vitamins stateroom organization tools and even some snacks in these we also

recommend bringing at least one or two empty Ziploc baggies with you and that Sharpie that we talked about earlier could be a great way to utilize this bag so you could just kind of write in whatever it is that you decide to use the bag for while you're on the cruise you can never get enough of these

pouches and I just love the designs that they sell on Amazon you might want to consider traveling with a clear but structured makeup bag to keep your items organized the nice thing about this is that you can actually just move these right on into a drawer kind of fold back the top just like this and while you're

sitting at the vanity you can just reach down and grab things out but the drawer stays nice and organized this two-piece set that I found on Amazon comes with this smaller bag and both of them are actually TSA approved if you need to move through airport security in the US with your 311 liquids this set will work

out great and keep your vanity organized wall space is some of the best way to keep the Clutter off of your stateroom especially if you're in a smaller or an inside cabin where you don't have a lot of space utilizing the wall space can be great now some cruise ships actually have builtin hooks

like these on the wall where you have built-in storage but that's not always the case so what you might want to do and I know you've probably heard this tip before is grab some different types of magnets there's large magnetic hooks smaller magnetic hooks like this one and they work out great for hanging things

like your day bag you can also organize your itinerary which I will link to this customizable itinerary another thing that I like to do too is keep our lanyard with our cruise cars right by the door so we don't misplace them and those smaller hooks can be great for that because they don't usually hold a

lot of weight I love this next hack if you're always losing your room service menu take one of the magnetic clips and put this right on the wall so that you don't misplace it this is something that's worked out really well for us on this cruise and we have not lost this in a drawer yet another thing you can do is

take your daily newsletter just for the day that you're in and keep it on the wall and then take the rest of them after the day ends and tuck them in a drawer out of the way so you're keeping things clutter free and of course we will link to our favorite wall mount itinerary that you can customize it's

just a really easy Google doc that you can plug your information into so you can stay nice and organized and everyone in your party knows where they're going to be the next day the cruise okay let's jump into the bathroom now because I have so many great tips for you on keeping your bathroom

organized if if your bathroom is really tiny or you don't have a lot of shelf or cupboard space in your restroom these hanging toiletry bags are super handy for a cruise there's all kinds of different pockets in them that you can utilize I like to travel with a travel size razor this is a great space saver

as well and you can leave these tucked right into the bag and see through these clear pouches this clear pouch on this one is TSA approved and completely removable as well all right we'll step into the restroom and tell you about some more tips and tricks clear toiletry bags are an excellent way to start with

your packing so that you can see everything that is inside of them and just leave them on the shelves fully packed if it's a shorter Cruise you may not even really want to take things out and put them out on the shelves like we've done here but if it's a longer cruise and you want to settle in that

works too most cruise ship bathrooms have a clothes line that goes across the shower or the bath but they're really weak and you can't hang much stuff on them and if you forget get to bring clothes pins you're kind of out of luck last year I discovered this cool little Gadget that you can slide right over

your towel bar and this is an optimal place to dry things like swimwear after a long day swimming or on a Shore Excursion these are really really handy especially if you have kids if you have any more of those glasses in your room this is a great place to put toothbrushes and toothpaste so that

everybody can access it also we love using sanitary toothbrush covers on our toothbrushes when we travel you just never know who might come into the room and have contact with your stuff so that's something that we always travel with if you're driving to your cruise and you have a little space in your

suitcase you might want to consider taking your own liquid hand soap this is usually far superior to what the cruise line provides for you another thing that I'll sometimes do is take these little leap covers and place them over the top so that they don't leak in transit if you're wanting to go with more of a bar

soap you can buy those travel siiz bars they usually have like Dove at Walmart and put them in a Ziploc bag the boxes that these come in are very bulky but typically if you just shrink down the little bag like this it doesn't take up much space and you can reuse it if you have any soap left over at the end of

your cruise sometimes when we're on a cruise we like to do just a little tiny bit of laundry while we are in our state room we don't want to pay to have the laundry sent off or maybe we don't want to bother with going to the laundromat but we have some wet swims suits or some socks that really need to be washed

these products are both great sink Suds are kind of the OG detergent this is just a teeny tiny quarter of an ounce and you can just wash items in your sink tide makes a product that's similar but very effective as well so I always pack these your bedside area on your cruise is also a great place to find little

hidden Nooks of storage often times there's a bedside table here and that's a great place to put items that you're going to use at at night for example your reading glasses your chargers your Kindle your books and even your pajamas and slippers can go into those little bedside tables you might also want to

consider packing a really long cable if you have USB charging by your bedside on a cruise it may be that that charging port is a little bit far from the item that you want to charge or sometimes they'll put the charging port high up on the wall and the table is down low and it's difficult to access so when in

doubt pack a nice long cable I think this one's about 4 feet long and it works out wonderfully I also like to pack these multi- cables that charge USBC USB Apple watches and lightning all in one cable if you're an Apple user this Multi-Device charger is going to come in so handy place your iPhone here

and your Apple watch here if you want to you can even turn this into a little triangular stand at night and put your phone in clock mode comes in really handy because most cruise ships do not have clocks unless you turn on the TV or look at the phone in the room and now for those classic Cruise tips that we

talked about earlier in the show I wanted to make sure that I didn't forget about them because they are still great but don't forget to slide your luggage right under the bed when you're done unpacking on day one you don't want that luggage taking up any unnecessary space in in your cruise ship stateroom and

also don't forget to pack a travel hamper these popup hampers are amazing at containing the dirty laundry and clutter in one place but if you happen to forget your hamper what you can do is leave your suitcase under the bed open and just toss your laundry into it as the week progresses so what did you

think were these helpful tips did we miss anything do you have any awesome Cruise hacks that you'd like to share with our community if you do leave them down in the comments below and we'd love to give you a heart or respond personally have a great Cruise everyone and until next time we'll see you on the
