Common Questions About the Taku Glacier Helicopter and Airboat Adventure

How long does the entire tour take?

The video does not specify a total duration, but it shows departure after breakfast, multiple activity segments including helicopter flights and airboat riding, and return in time for sunset dinner viewing on the ship. Plan for a full port day commitment of 6 to 8 hours.

Is this tour safe for people who have never flown in a helicopter before?

The video shows a relaxed, routine operation with no safety incidents or warnings. Professional pilots and airboat drivers manage the experience. The video creator appears comfortable throughout, suggesting the tour is designed for general cruise passengers without prior aerial or water sports experience.

What should I wear for this adventure?

Wear layers under the provided waterproof pants, as the airboat ride is cold and windy. The video creator notes that rear seats on the airboat are particularly freezing, so consider wearing winter gloves. Comfortable walking shoes for exploring Juneau's shops before or after the tour are essential, as 7+ miles of walking is typical.

Can I eat near the helicopter departure point?

The tour includes a bus ride back to the ship after the glacier activities. Local food options, including a fish taco food truck recommended by the bus driver, are available near the dock. The video shows this meal fits naturally into the schedule after the helicopter and airboat portions end.

What if the weather is bad on my port day?

The video shows the tour operating in slightly rainy conditions with beautiful views still available. Juneau weather can be wet, but it does not prevent the tour from running. Waterproof gear is provided, and visibility to the glacier and forest remains excellent even in light rain.

Justin’s Take

This video does an excellent job showing the real sequence and scale of a Taku Glacier tour, from the initial helicopter boarding through the glacier landing. It captures both the logistics (bus transfers, provided gear, seat positioning) and the emotional payoff (the sheer size of the glacier, the beauty of the forest from above), which helps potential bookers understand exactly what to expect.

The best moment is watching the creator step onto the glacier itself and witness how small humans become in that landscape—that sense of awe and perspective is what makes this excursion memorable, and the video conveys it genuinely. If you're cruise-bound to Juneau and want to see more than the town shops, this is absolutely worth the investment.

Description

Come with me as I take you along on a port day in Juneau, Alaska. We went on the Taku Glacier Helicopter landing & Airboat Adventure. It was amazing and just unreal.

Weirdly enough, vacation has made it easier for my weight loss journey. I am definitely walking a lot more (7 miles today?!?!!) and feel like I am eating better than normal.

This was a really fun day and I hope you enjoy this video. 🤍

Good morning from Juno, Alaska. Today is going to be a very adventurous day and I'm so excited to take you along with me. We ate breakfast on our cruise this morning and I got an egg, hash brown, and some crepes. It was so good.

I am still going good on the no soda, you guys. Honestly, this is probably the most beautiful city I've ever been to. Just look at this. We made our way off of the ship and then walked around town for a little bit, just enjoying all of the shops and scenery.

That's my problem. I of course had to make a stop at the popular Tracy's and I spent $110 on this little meal. Would I do it again? Probably not. But it was delicious. The rolls were kind of hard and very cold, but everything else was awesome with the

crab cakes being my absolute favorite. As you can see, I was struggling to get my crab a bit, but this lady was super kind and helped me out. Had to get a selfie with the crab leg for my husband.

After we ate, we waited for our bus and then were taken to where we boarded our helicopter. They put us in shoes fit for walking on the glacier and waterproof pants. It was slightly rainy, but we still had such beautiful views from above of Juno

and the Tongis National Forest. Heat.

Heat. Our pilot flew us over to Talk Point where we landed and were then greeted by

our airboat driver. We put flotation jackets and hearing protection on and then we were ready. I cannot get over my grandma in this flotation jacket.

The airboat was so fun and cold with exceptional uplose views of the glacier and surrounding scenery. I felt so so small in the best of ways in this boat. Everything around you is just so beautiful and ginormous.

Heat. Heat. We eventually got to a stopping point and the driver said we could switch seats if we wanted to. So, the man

behind me wanted someone to switch with him. I did and then I could see why. Sit back there and you will freeze. Is it really justified buying like winter gloves?

Once back to Taku Point, we got back in our helicopter and then flew up to Taku Glacier for a glacier landing.

We got some glacier water and walked around for around 10 minutes before we headed back. It was incredible. Hero.

We landed, got back on our bus, and the driver of the bus recommended the best fish tacos to get were from this little food truck. So, of course, I had to go and get them. That is really good. All right. I don't know. I got to like I asked him what was best and he was like just get the three different um fish

tacos. So all these fish are different apparently. As you can tell, I enjoyed them very much. Best food so far on this trip. kind of just tastes like water. We then got back on the ship and watched the sunset. I don't think I did too bad

today with 7 miles of walking. I'll see you soon.
