Overview of This Reykjavik Helicopter Summit Landing Tour

This helicopter tour review captures a morning flight departing from Reykjavik Airport, featuring a summit landing on a strip of volcanic terrain surrounding the city. The experience takes you above Iceland's capital and its dramatic landscape, offering aerial perspectives of the Reykjavik area, nearby ski mountains, and dormant volcanic craters that haven't erupted in roughly 1,000 years. The video documents not just the flight itself, but the full experience—from arrival at the airfield through the moment you land at elevation and toast to the views.

This tour suits adventurous travelers who want a genuinely different way to see Reykjavik rather than exploring on foot or by car. If you're the type who seeks memorable, storytelling-worthy experiences and doesn't mind the cold Icelandic morning air, a helicopter summit landing delivers exactly that kind of unusual perspective. Spots fill up quickly, especially during the scenic season when sunrise colors and clear skies are most reliable, so booking ahead is essential.

Frequently Asked Questions About Reykjavik Helicopter Tours

Is Reykjavik Airport the same as Keflavík International Airport?

No. Reykjavik Airport is a separate, smaller airport closer to the city center. The helicopter tour departs from Reykjavik Airport itself, not from the main international airport, so confirm your departure location when you book.

Are the volcanic craters dangerous?

The craters on the landing strip are dormant—they haven't been active for approximately 1,000 years. While they're geologically interesting and visually striking, they pose no safety risk to visitors on the ground or in the helicopter.

What time of day is best for this helicopter tour?

Early morning is ideal. The video captures sunrise and purple sky colors that occur in the early hours, which also tend to offer the clearest visibility for aerial photography and sightseeing. Booking an early departure maximizes your chances of excellent lighting and views.

Can you get out of the helicopter during the tour?

Yes. The "summit landing" aspect of this tour means you actually land at an elevated location where you can disembark, stand outside, and spend time taking in the landscape before returning to the aircraft.

What should I wear on a helicopter tour in Iceland?

Bring warm, layered clothing. The video was shot on a cold Icelandic morning, and you'll be at altitude in an aircraft with open or minimal cabin heating. Hat, gloves, and a good insulating jacket are essential even if the day seems clear.

Justin’s Take

This video is genuinely helpful if you're considering a best helicopter tour in Iceland. It shows real conditions, real timing, real landings, and honest moments—including the champagne mishap—that give you a true sense of what the experience feels like rather than a glossy sales pitch.

What stands out most is how well it captures the magic of seeing a city and landscape from above at sunrise, combined with the unexpected human touch of celebrating a stranger's birthday at an elevation most people never reach. If you want a story to tell and views you can't get any other way, this tour is absolutely worth booking.
