Flight altitude: The helicopter maintains roughly 500 feet above ground level while cruising at about 2,000 feet above sea level, close enough to see details but high enough for safety and comfort
Headset communication: Two-way headsets allow you to hear the pilot's narration and ask questions in real time; the pilot demonstrates adjusting headset volume if audio becomes too quiet or loud
Weather and visibility: Hazy conditions may obscure distant views like Catalina Island; clearer afternoons typically offer better sightseeing
Route coverage: Tours follow the scenic valleys, canyons, and coastline from the San Fernando Valley westward through Malibu to Santa Monica and Venice Beach, ending near the airport
Seasonal wildlife: The pilot mentions seeing whales and dolphins regularly along the coast, adding an unpredictable natural element to the experience
Traffic and ATC: Expect radio chatter from air traffic control as the helicopter navigates near Santa Monica Airport and follows established flight corridors—part of the authentic flying experience
Frequently Asked Questions About Elite Helicopter Tours
How long is the flight?
The video shows a complete tour lasting approximately 30 minutes of airtime, departing from Santa Monica Airport and covering the San Fernando Valley, Malibu canyons, coastline, and beach communities before returning.
Will I actually see celebrity homes?
Yes. The pilot points out specific homes as you pass them—including Will Smith's tan estate with private lake and tennis court, Owen Wilson's house with solar panels, Julia Roberts' property hidden in trees near Point Dume, and several others along the Malibu coast. The pilot provides landmarks (like counting houses from an entrance or identifying distinctive features) to help you locate them.
What's the best time of day to fly?
The video shows an afternoon flight with hazy conditions obscuring Catalina Island in the distance. Clearer days and earlier afternoon windows likely offer better visibility of distant landmarks, though coastal views remain stunning regardless of haze.
Can I bring a camera or phone?
The video doesn't explicitly address photography policy, but passengers are clearly photographing or viewing the scenery throughout the flight. Contact Elite Helicopter Tours directly to confirm their camera and electronic device policy.
What should I wear?
The video doesn't mention dress code or weather considerations. For comfort during a 30-minute flight, wear layers suitable for the altitude and time of year, and secure any loose items before boarding. Check with the tour operator for specific recommendations.
This video is invaluable if you're deciding whether a helicopter tour is worth the investment. You see the actual route, hear real commentary, and watch passengers' genuine reactions—no marketing fluff. The pilot is knowledgeable and personable, explaining geology (the ancient seabed at Red Rock, earthquake activity), local history (John Wayne's property, Paramount Ranch's connection to the logo), and geography (water imports to the desert, canyon roads) alongside the celebrity spotting.
What I loved most was watching the landscape shift from urban valleys to dramatic canyons to pristine coastline in a single flight—it really does feel like seeing Los Angeles come together from above. This is genuinely worth booking if you want an unforgettable aerial perspective and real insight into the city's layout and character.

coming up on the LA River underneath us now and it runs right to left. Makes it way out to the Pacific Ocean here in Long Beach alpha. And we're coming up on the 101 freeway. probably one of LA's busiest. This of course today is no exception.
As we cross over the freeway, we're coming into straight ahead. We have Inino Reservoir south of Rome. So I can see you. How's the volume? Can you hear me? Okay. Yep. Is yours a little quiet? I have I'm having a hard time, but I don't know if on the headset there's a a little knob.
Let's try adjusting that. People play with it all the time, but sometimes it gets slow. That better. Yeah. Good. Underneath this is insurable. Good. Good. The big yellow mansion to the left with the pool in the backyard. That used to be John Wayne's house. Oh, wow. When he lived here though, this
was all horse property and ranch land. As I mentioned, this is Inino Reservoir to our left. Southern California is basically a big desert. So we have to import and store all of our water. So you'll see a lot of reservoirs on the flight today. 54 be clearing southwest. Thank you. Before you go, traffic south
your position northbound 2,700 indicated. Roger. We're looking at 54 on our left of the Santa Monica Mountains. It's a recreational area, so they don't build any homes up on on top of the mountains there. So, there's a lot of hiking trails. We're coming into Tarzana. Are you
familiar with Kevin Hart, the comedian? Yes. So, his house will be on our left here in just a moment. Oh, wow. traffic in sight. Thanks for the call. [Applause] West side and Cena reservoir westbound 1.8 climbing. So in the neighborhood to our left, you look at the entrance where
all the palm trees are together. Count four houses to the right and it's the one with the whitish colored roof. He's got a black and white SUV in the driveway and the palm tree right off our left. Wow. [Music] Where those huh?
Ow. [Applause] 52 east side of Canyon headed westbound 2000.
A little hazy today, but normally you'd be able to look off to the left and see Catalina Island out there in the distance, but it's obscured this morning. Afternoon, I should say. Coming up underneath us is the uh well-known Tanga Canyon Road. A real windy road that makes its way down the
canyon, ends up at the shoreline, which is off our left. [Music] Ours look so small. Please back off to the south. Turn in west.
Straight ahead is an area known as Red Rock. It's actually part of an ancient seabed that's been basically uplifted and tilted vertical. So, it's exposed now. And that's all due to the earthquake activity that we've had in the past. The famous San Andreas fault would be off of our right way out in the
distance by those large mountains. Our last major earthquake was probably the North Witch earthquake back in the 90s. So, we're probably overdue for a big one again.
5 to red rock westbound 2000. That's beautiful. Look at that here. As we cross through the ridge line, we'll be coming into Malibu Canyon. Straight ahead is Mhalland Highway. It will be paralleling that for a short time.
So, how high are we right now? Uh, it's varying as the train is all over, but generally we stay about 500 ft above the ground. Okay. And we're about 2,000 ft above sea level. On the left, you'll see a real windy road. Makes it way up the mountain there. That's known as Stun Road.
By looking at it, you could probably imagine how it got its name. Motorcyclists love it. On our right would be Calabasas and Agora Hills in a second. We'll be passing by Will Smith's house in just a moment. It'll be on our left.
Left to go north canyon westbound at 2000. So where is this again? Right now we're in Malibu Canyon. Uh Gora Hills is to the right and Calabasa. On our left the big tan house down there is Will Smith the state as you can see has his own private lake and tennis court. Basketball court. Wow.
Will Smith. That's probably one of the larger homes here in the Malibu area. We're going to continue across the canyon and take up the Malibu Mountain Range and head up towards the wine country. Straight ahead we have Malibu Canyon Park. You'll see as we fly over it's pretty nice place to hike
and 134. Charlie at the Hollywood Pole 1,00
at all. Oh, there you go. Maybe I said the English language. All I keep saying is wow. [Applause] Coming up on our right, you'll see this man-made lake, part of the old Paramount U Studio Ranch. They actually built the lake uh for the
opening scenes of the original Tarzan movie. Oh, wow. Also, the uh the kind of real steep peak that's on the other side of the lake is where Paramount got their inspiration for their logo. So, if you ever seen the opening sequence of Paramount Movie Y with the logo, you can kind of make out
the resemblance there. Oh, right here. This one. Yep. On the right. Wow. That's awesome. Yeah. Spark Primount Ranch westbound 2000 climbing
is 2 miles west of Dodger 1,500 [Applause] ahead and to the right would be Westlake Village. We're coming into the area of the Malibu Vineyard. One really nice one is Rocky Oaks, which
is uh where that estate is on the top of the peak over there. You'll see as we go by. It's a pretty impressive place. We'll be paralleling Canyon Road, which is straight ahead, and it goes through several tunnels on its way out towards Zuma Beach, which is our next destination. 5 goes Rocky Oaks. Will be southbound
2.3. We're going to add health up there, huh? and take a charity echoing 1,500.
[Applause] Pretty nice, huh? Yeah. On our right is the Malibu Wine Vineyard.
In just a second, we'll be passing by Malibu Cafe. [Applause] Now, Cafe is off to our right.
[Applause] Heat. Heat. [Music]
[Music] Heat. [Music] [Music]
[Music] And you can start to see the ocean now. On the right will be Zuma Beach. We're going to head over that way. Trafficless 978 Delta is tracking 10
eastbound 2000 coming up on USC proceeding eastbound to [Music]
Zuma Beach straight ahead. Five is coming up from Zimba Beach. We'll be eastbound along the shoreline. 800 for 500. We'll keep our eyes peeled. We've been getting lucky lately and seeing whales and a few dolphins. So hopefully we'll get to see some today. This is the way to travel, huh?
Wow, that's beautiful. The waves, huh? Wow. [Applause] Traffic 978 Delta Staple Center 2000 eastbound
and helic 8 golf just across the 605 southeast 1,600 210.
Wow. [Music] the gray house to our left with the u solar panels on it that belongs to Owen Wilson the actor behind us. We're coming up on Point Doom. This is really nice to hike around Point Doom eastbound 500.
Huh? Wow. [Music] Some big damn fish in the water. You don't realize it. Yeah. Holy wow. Traffic not available.
Off our left, Julia Roberts has got a house. It's kind of hidden in the trees over there. Is it the one with like the tan roof there? Yeah. It's really kind of hard to see. It's kind of back a little bit of the tennis court. And then Barbara Stryand's house is the one on the cliff there with the white
pickets then the pool. Oh wow. Then straight ahead is Paradise Cove. Make a little turn here and then see it off our left. And there's Paradise Cove [Music] 5. Paradise Cove eastbound 500.
Lot of interesting architecture out here. One house in particular. [Music] What's that? Oh, right. Yeah, right up there. You almost can't even see it. It's like the same color.
So, the homes here on the beach and the one at the very end is kind of sitting on top of some rocks that belongs to Bruce Willis. Wow. [Music] On our left is the Pacific Coast Highway. We're paralleling it and it
runs all the way up the western seabboard of the US, also known as Highway One. [Applause] is on the shoreline approaching upper nine eastbound 500.
Coming up from their left is another real interesting house. They put like grass on their roof for whatever reason. Kind of a cool look. Up on the hill to your left, the tan buildings is part of Pepperdine University. It's an Ivy League school here in Malibu. And then to the right of
it, you'll see a big white industrial building that's part of the HRL laboratories. And it's actually where they invented the first laser. Oh, wow. And they're still the largest employer here in Malibu. Oh, people work here. Uhhuh. Yeah, I know, right? All these homes on the coast.
Yeah. On our left, the home on the beach is part of Malibu Colonies. Tom Hanks, Melbrook, among others live there. We'll be passing by Malibu Lagoon and Surf Fighter Beach. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Laughter]
Surf Fighter Beach 500 surfing. Oh yeah. [Music] I was like, look at the ice for a second. I was thinking call a fish. Oh yeah. No. Coming up on Malibu Pier and to the right and ahead is Nou Japanese
restaurant. It's the tan building with the white umbrellas on the patio right here. It's pretty popular with the Kardashians. [Music] Ow.
[Music] Ah, god. [Music] It's beautiful, huh? [Music]
