What to Expect on This Niagara Falls Helicopter Tour from New York
This helicopter tour takes you on an aerial journey over one of North America's most iconic natural wonders. The video follows a multi-generational family—grandmother, son, and 8-year-old granddaughter—as they experience the falls from the air, capturing the cascading water, mist, and surrounding landscape from vantage points impossible to reach from the ground. The tour departs from the New York side and provides intimate, low-altitude views of the Niagara and Horseshoe Falls as they plunge dramatically downstream.
This experience suits anyone seeking a thrilling yet accessible adventure, whether you're a first-time visitor to Niagara Falls or a seasoned traveler wanting a fresh perspective. Families with school-age children (even young ones) are welcome, as demonstrated by the fearless 8-year-old passenger sitting in the front seat beside the pilot. If you love photography, dramatic water views, or the rush of seeing a natural wonder from above, this tour delivers a memorable afternoon or morning activity.
Scenic Highlights You'll See on the Flight
- Horseshoe Falls and American Falls — viewed from directly above and beside, showing the sheer power and scale of the water cascading over the cliff edge
- Upper Niagara River — the wide, flowing river descending toward the rapids before it splits around Goat Island
- Goat Island and Three Sister Islands — located within Niagara Falls State Park, the oldest state park in the United States, visible from above as the water separates and surrounds them
- Rainbow Bridge, Bridal Veil Falls, and Cave of the Winds — landmark structures and natural features framing the falls landscape
- Maid of the Mist boats — the famous tour boats operating at water level, visible from the helicopter for perspective on scale
- Rainbow over the falls — a bonus natural phenomenon captured during the flight, created by mist and sunlight

What You Should Know Before Booking Your Flight
- Children as young as 8 years old can fly; check minimum age and weight restrictions with your operator
- Front-seat positioning next to the pilot may be assigned by the operator; request this if it's important to you, though availability varies
- Bring a camera or ensure your phone is charged—the views are photograph-worthy, and you'll want to capture rainbows and sweeping vistas
- Weather and water conditions affect visibility; time of day impacts mist, rainbows, and lighting quality
- The tour climbs above and circles both falls, so expect moderate altitude changes and continuous motion; those sensitive to heights or motion should consider this
- Tours operate year-round, but winter may reduce frequency due to weather; book in advance during peak summer season
Frequently Asked Questions About Niagara Falls Helicopter Tours
How long is the helicopter ride?
The video does not specify the exact duration. Typical scenic helicopter tours over Niagara Falls range from 12 to 30 minutes of flight time, but you should confirm the length with your tour operator before booking.

Yes. The video features an 8-year-old granddaughter who not only flew but sat in the front seat with the pilot. Most operators welcome children, though there may be minimum age, height, or weight requirements—check directly with the company you choose.
Is the helicopter tour safe?
The video presents the experience as a safe, family-friendly activity undertaken by grandparents and young children. Commercial helicopter tours over Niagara Falls are regulated and operated by licensed pilots, but individual company safety records vary; always verify certifications and reviews before booking.
What should I bring or wear?
Wear comfortable clothing appropriate for the season. Bring a camera or ensure your phone is fully charged to capture the falls, mist, and rainbows. The video shows passengers taking both photos and video, so having two devices or a fully powered phone is helpful.

Description
My son and granddaughter went with me on the helicopter ride over the falls. Hubby decided it was best if he stayed on the ground and took some pics...hmm, lol... My son took the video and I took pics. My granddaughter was in the front seat with the pilot - she is only 8 and fearless!
The ride provided us the unique experience of viewing the Niagara and Horseshoe Falls from the lowest and closest point possible. We climbed above and around the Niagara and Horseshoe Falls. The tour included a view of the Rainbow Bridge, American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Horseshoe Falls, Goat Island, Cave of the Winds and the Maid of the Mist boats.
We were mesmerized by the wide sprawling Upper Niagara River descending towards the rushing rapids before it separates and surrounds Goat Island and the Three Sister Islands. (Goat Island and The Three Sister Islands are located in the Niagara Falls State Park, the oldest State park in the United States.) As the water continues downstream and cascades over the powerful Niagara and Horseshoe Falls, we saw a beautiful rainbow! This certainly was a once in a lifetime experience!!
