Justin’s Take

This video serves a genuine purpose: it answers a question most people in Los Angeles never think to ask—what does the entire LA River look like from end to end? The cinematography is steady and clear, and the unbroken flight creates a satisfying sense of journey across a massive geographic span.

What stands out most is how the video reveals the river not as a single thing, but as a constantly changing landscape: engineered and controlled in some sections, flanked by studios and infrastructure in others, and finally opening to the ocean. If you live in or visit Los Angeles and want to understand how the city actually fits together, this is genuinely worth your time.

LA River Flyover, from Van Nuys to Long Beach. My helicopter flyovers videos of California have inspired lots of flyover requests. One interesting request came from a documentary filmmaker who asked if I would be willing to shoot footage along the length of the LA River. I agreed but wasn’t sure the journey would merit a Micah Flies video.

Man, I’m so glad I decided to film the flight. Not only was the LA River’s development from Van Nuys to Long Beach fascinating but we also saw many of the sites viewers have requested. To top off the flight, a plane had to make an emergency landing as I approached Long Beach and I listened to the drama unfold in real-time. It was a flight to remember.

Here's the documentary that requested I fly the LA river.
