Overview of This Victoria Falls Helicopter Tour

This video documents a scenic flight experience over Victoria Falls, one of Africa's most dramatic natural wonders, operated by Shearwater Victoria Falls Flight of the Angels. The tour combines aerial views of the massive waterfall with practical insights into the surrounding landscape, including the location of nearby accommodation. It's an unscripted look at what to expect when booking this popular activity, filmed by actual travelers who completed the experience.

The tour works best for visitors who want to see Victoria Falls from a completely different perspective—from above—and don't mind waiting their turn in a larger group. If you're drawn to dramatic aerial photography, want to understand the geography of the falls and nearby lodges, or simply crave an adrenaline rush, this experience could be the highlight of your Victoria Falls visit.

What You'll See During the Flight

  • Aerial views of Victoria Falls itself from multiple angles, revealing the scale and power of the cascade in ways ground-level visits cannot match
  • The surrounding landscape and geographic context of the falls from the air
  • Local landmarks including the Elephant Hills Resort, helping you orient yourself to where you're staying
  • The return walk back to your hotel grounds, offering a scenic route through the natural environment

Practical Details Before You Book

  • Group size: Tours operate with larger groups (30 people in this example), rotating in smaller helicopter batches of 5 passengers at a time
  • Wait time: Expect a significant wait—approximately an hour and a half—between your safety briefing and your actual flight, depending on your position in the rotation
  • Introduction and safety briefing: A five-minute briefing precedes boarding, covering essential safety procedures
  • Booking operator: Shearwater Victoria Falls Flight of the Angels is the company featured in this video
  • Nearby lodging: The video references Elephant Hills Resort as an example accommodation in the area
  • What to expect afterward: Being the last group in rotation meant the opportunity to walk back to the hotel, which may vary depending on your tour timing

Common Questions About This Victoria Falls Experience

How long is the actual helicopter flight?

The video does not specify the exact duration of the flight itself, only that the overall experience involves a five-minute safety briefing followed by approximately an hour and a half of waiting before your group boards. Contact Shearwater Victoria Falls directly for precise flight duration.

Is this tour suitable for nervous fliers?

The video includes a mandatory safety briefing before takeoff, which should cover key information for first-time fliers. However, the video does not discuss how much detail is provided or what accommodations exist for anxious passengers, so it's worth asking the operator about their approach to nervous travelers.

What's the best time of day to book this tour?

The video doesn't specify optimal timing for lighting or weather conditions. Being the last group of the day apparently allowed for a pleasant walk back to the hotel, but whether that's the ideal slot for photography or comfort is not discussed in the footage.

Can you see the hotel from the air?

Yes—one of the benefits highlighted in the video is gaining a clear aerial perspective of where your accommodation is located in relation to Victoria Falls, using Elephant Hills Resort as a reference point.

Is the wait worth it?

According to the video, the hour-and-a-half wait was considered "fully worth it" by the travelers, who felt the aerial views and geographic understanding gained made the delay justified. Individual tolerance for waiting and personal priorities will vary.

Justin’s Take

This video is genuinely useful because it doesn't oversell the experience or hide the logistics. Showing a real 30-person tour group, the mandatory wait, and the actual flow of the day sets honest expectations for anyone considering this activity. Most aerial tour videos focus only on the flight itself; this one gives you the complete picture.

What stood out most was the casual, unscripted nature of the footage and the inclusion of the walk back to the hotel, which adds character and shows the surrounding environment beyond just the helicopter ride. If you're weighing whether to book this tour, this video will help you decide with confidence.

Description

Victoria Falls is a really exciting place to visit. There's lots of tourist activities to do, and one of the most exciting for us was the helicopter tour with Shearwater Victoria Falls Flight of the Angels. There were 30 of us in the tour group and 5 people at a time could board the helicopter, so after a five minute introduction and safety briefing we had to wait an hour and a half, but it was fully worth it. You not only get to see the falls from the air but you get a good understanding of where the hotel we were staying in is located (Elephant Hills Resort). All up a worthwhile experience and good that we were the last group as we got to walk back to the hotel which I've shown some footage of as it was such a delight to stay in.
