Overview of This Rio de Janeiro Doors-Off Helicopter Tour
This video documents a 30-minute helicopter tour over Rio de Janeiro with an unusual and thrilling feature: the helicopter doors are removed during flight. The experience takes viewers on a scenic journey along Rio's famous coastline and around its most iconic landmarks, offering an unobstructed perspective of the city that ground-level sightseeing simply cannot match. The video captures both the visual spectacle and the personal experience of flying open-air above one of the world's most dramatically beautiful cities.
This type of tour suits adventurous travelers who want a unique perspective on Rio's geography and landmarks, photographers seeking unfiltered aerial shots, and anyone willing to embrace the thrill of flying without cabin doors. It's not for those uncomfortable with heights or who need enclosed aircraft comfort, but for the curious and bold, it offers memories and photos that conventional tours cannot deliver.

What to Know Before Booking Your Doors-Off Rio Flight
- Total flight duration is 30 minutes, which covers the coastal route and monument viewing but moves at a steady pace
- The helicopter is specifically equipped for doors-off flights, with safety provisions that allow passengers to extend limbs outside for photography
- Best light for photography typically occurs during time of day with clear skies—early morning or late afternoon tend to offer better visibility and softer light than midday
- The flight includes a photo stop at Arpoador, giving passengers time to compose shots rather than photographing only during movement
- Helicopter makes multiple passes and turns around Corcovado so you'll have several opportunities to photograph Christ the Redeemer from different angles
- Expect weather to play a role in visibility—Rio's mountain terrain can create cloud cover, so booking during the dry season typically offers clearer views
Frequently Asked Questions About Rio's Doors-Off Helicopter Tours
Is it safe to fly in a helicopter with no doors?
Yes, doors-off helicopter tours are a legitimate and increasingly popular aerial tour style. Aircraft used for these tours are specifically designed and equipped with safety harnesses and restraint systems to keep passengers secure. The video shows this is an established tour option in Rio with professional operators.
What should I wear for a doors-off flight?
Wear secure, fitted clothing that won't flap in the wind—long pants and closed-toe shoes are advisable. Avoid loose items like hats, scarves, or jewelry that could fall or blow away. Layers are smart since temperatures drop with altitude, and bring sunscreen because you're exposed to direct sun without cabin protection.
Can I bring a camera on the doors-off helicopter?
Yes, bringing a camera is essentially the point of a doors-off tour. The video emphasizes photography throughout, and the aircraft provides a photo stop specifically for this purpose. Secure your camera with a strap so it cannot be dropped, and consider a smaller or lightweight device if you plan to extend it outside the helicopter.
How much does a doors-off Rio helicopter tour cost?
The video references a booking link with a promotional discount code, suggesting tours are available through tour platforms. Pricing varies by operator and season, but doors-off tours typically cost more than standard helicopter tours due to the specialized aircraft and safety equipment involved.
What if the weather is bad on the day of my tour?
Rio's tropical climate means weather can change quickly. Tours are usually rescheduled for better conditions rather than cancelled outright, but confirm the operator's weather policy before booking. Visibility is crucial for this experience, so don't fly if clouds obscure the landmarks.

Description
Come with me on this incredible helicopter tour above Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
The flight last 30 minutes, which was amazing time , we flew above the whole coast from Barra da Tijuca, Vidigal , Ipanema to have a quick Stop at Arpoador where we could take photo. And be cause our helicopter was “doors off” we could put our feet outside and take those amazing photos.
Later we continue our flight to the notorious Corcovado ! the view is.. indescriptible.. with this mountain.. and this status representing the Christ above everyhting.. This is a beautiful monument to watch and get inspired from. We could here too take photos as the helicopter did few turns around the corcovado.
And then we went back to the heliport following the coast. The whole flight gives you a new perspective of Rio, and it’s astoninshing !
