We wanted more portable solar for our Winnebago Revel, but bigger panels also mean more weight, more storage space, and more work every time you set them up. So we tested a 350W BLUETTI solar panel and a 400W ZOUPW solar panel to find out if all that extra solar is actually worth carrying in an adventure van.

We compare their size, weight, build quality, setup, and real world solar output using our BLUETTI Elite 300. The results were surprisingly different. We also bring out our smaller 180W ZOUPW panel to see how it compares and explain why the panel that produces the most power may not actually be the one we want to carry.

They say if you want more power off grid, you need bigger solar [music] panels. But is bigger actually better? We grabbed two of the biggest portable solar panels that we've ever used to see if it was worth hauling around in the van. Now, after using these solar panels for a while, we definitely have formed

some opinions. >> If you're new here, I'm Greg. Kelly's behind the camera. This is our Winnebago Rebel. It comes with, I believe, 215 watts of solar on the roof. Having deployable solar panels that you can stick out because we like to park in the shade, this will still give you some

power. We've been using this 180-watt Zuke solar panel. We really like it. >> We're curious if these bigger 350-400 watt panels, are they worth carrying? >> The two solar panels that we tested was the Blueetti 350-watt, which we purchased ourselves, and the Zuke W 400-watt panel. And they did provide

>> [music] >> When it comes to sizes, the Blueetti is definitely smaller than the Zuke W. But when it comes to weight, [music] I think the Blueetti is much heavier than the Zuke W. I can feel a significant difference. >> Oh, that's heavy. >> Why is weight important? Because these

things have to go in the van. Our 180, I can actually [music] lift with one finger. These, much heavier. Oh. >> [clears throat] >> That was awkward. Get this one up in there. Oh, and the carrying case actually has a bottom handle, so that's [music] much easier to lift up. Of course, all my stuff's in the way.

>> [snorts] >> Makes a significant difference as how [music] high it stands up compared to the Blueetti. >> One thing I want to point out on the Zuke panel is it has this protective cover. And it actually is pretty substantially thick. It's got foam insert [music] in there. So, when you're throwing this in your

van, it your van will be protected from your solar panel being crushed. I'm not so worried about the solar panel itself. Those are pretty pretty indestructible. [music] On the Rebel, we have our bed. It is way up there, but it comes down, comes down, and then the bottom of the bed is about

here. And that is well within the range of this thing. So, [music] these panels can't actually live like this. They would have to either sit flat somewhere or we would lay them like this. This is slightly problematic for giant solar panels like this. Oh god, this one is heavy. Let's take these back out here, and I

will compare two other things. One is build quality. I'm slightly jaded to panels like this. So, if you look at it, come real close, you can see it it's It's kind of like this fabric-y feel to it. What happens is when you put fabric on dirt and rub it around like you're putting your solar panels out, it gets

dirty and gross. I don't really prefer those as I'm not style of panel. When it comes to the Zuke panel, panel is built very differently. It's got rigid outside structure to it. And all of these panels are nice and flat. Where when you're dealing with this, even just flopping it around, you

can see there's a lot of flex to it. Which makes a big difference when you set these up. Another difference in these panels is the sole storage area. This one's actually attached to the panel itself. We compare that, Zuke has a big pouch, but it's actually on the case, not on the panel itself. And it

does come with an adapter, and it has all the different barrel connectors along with this one. This is the one the Bluetti takes. Before I set up these panels, I wanted to show you this new extension cable I grabbed. My old one just had two cables like this. It was a pain in the butt. It was a big rat's

nest at all times. This is a 30-footer. It's got nice big gauge cable, but it's got a sheath on the cables and it keeps them nice and snug. So, when you roll them up, it just makes it really nice throwing inside the van. If you're interested in the in this cable or any of the panels we tested

today, we'll have links down in the description. You can also scan this QR code, which will take you to our links page. Show you how easy it is to set up the Zeus panel. I like it's got two big handles and they have hinges on them. So, you open it like that. And then you just swing out the other

ones. And if you come on this side, you can see each panel has a little kickstand. And they don't have any settings. They just open up all the way. >> [snorts] >> And your panel is set up. Now, we're up to the Blueetti 350. It has a bunch of snaps that you have to make sure you get undone.

Kind of holds everything together. There's also snaps on the kickstand as well. There it goes. So, this you just have to make sure you're opening it the right way. And you can already see that it's a it's

a different setup than the uh Zeus. And this one has three kickstands. And there we go. We fired up our Blueetti app. We can see we're getting zero solar in right now. Got 12 watts going out. We will plug in. First, let's do the Blueetti.

And we'll see what we get. There we go. 210. Right now, we're pulling in 218 watts on the Blueetti. Let's see if we can adjust the panel to see if we can get a little bit more. Let's switch it this way a little bit.

219. Okay. So, looks like we're maxing out at two Oh, 221. 218. So, between 218 and 221 for a 350-W panel. Okay, let's plug in this 400-W panel.

See what we get. Plugged in. Here we go. Hey, Zeus panel's plugged in. 218, 250. Okay, we're at 353 watts. Which is pretty close to the 400. Let's see if we can scooch this panel over. 353 still. One thing I I really like

about this panel is if you have to constantly rotate them throughout the day, I want to scooch it around, I can just grab this corner and rotate the whole thing. If I do that same thing over here, yeah, it it doesn't it just doesn't work like that. So, these are a hot mess, honestly.

I really had higher hopes for this Blueetti panel. Newer technology, more efficient versus this one. Doing some back of the napkin math, this one is 63% efficient in how we gathered the sun. This one was 87. So, there's a huge difference. One thing I also want to point out, I had this set

up last night. So, in the morning, this thing was right here capturing the sun. >> There's one thing these big panels do well, is it is still completely in the shade. Yeah, the sun's out, but there's just not on the panel and it's still making 48 watts. To do a little comparison, we'll test the the Zeus 180

watt panel to see how it compares to the other ones. Full disclosure, they did give us to us for review a good year or so ago and we have been using the crud out of this thing. It gets a lot of use. So, we're getting about 130 131 watts. And if we do some math on that, that comes to about

72% efficient, which is pretty good for an older flat panel like this. I think we're under attack. We just heard this massive crash. I thought something was going to be running through the brush, but I think actually a tree fell or something fell back there. It was super creepy. It's not something you expect to [music]

hear a big crashing noise. And we're the only people out here. Weird. Who do these big giant portable panels make sense for? If you've got an RV and you got a lot of storage space, I think they're perfect. If you've got a van and you aren't moving around so much, you're going to stay somewhere for a week or

two, having those out, you're going to get a ton of power. It just is a little bit problematic when it goes to to move them around. These also make really good sense for people who have a base camp. You can set these out at your camp, leave them out, do their thing, but then when you time to go, they still fold up

good enough to be portable and take them with you. >> Would we recommend these? Well, we would not recommend the Blue Eddie. It's just so heavy, it's floppy, it's difficult to set up and it doesn't seem like it's as efficient as it should be. Now, with the Zeus 400, I actually would recommend this, but it

is very big. So, and had a little bit on the heavier side. We're going to be sticking with the 180 just because of how we travel right now. If you're in a van and you're moving around a lot and you just don't have very much space, this 180 really makes sense, especially for us. And it is so lightweight.

Now, if power is more important than storage, these larger panels, especially the rigid ones, are definitely the better option. We really had high hopes for these solar panels, but sometimes bigger just isn't better. It's really what you're going to be able to use easily every single day. A big shout-out
