We are on the hunt to find the perfect solar panel to put on our RV roof. We've done a number of different videos comparing different types of panels and finding the best possible one we could find and people kept telling us, "You got to check out these Colsun panels." So, that is exactly what I have here
today and I'm excited to put it up against the test against our current [music] top dog competitor that we have found so far, which is the Renogy Shadow Flux. Now, like I've mentioned, we've done a number of different tests and the Renogy Shadow Flux so far has been our current top competitor. It's outperformed every
other panel we've tested against, specifically the ones that we used on top of our roof last year, which were the Rich Solar panels and we weren't the happiest with, but the Renogy so far has been our winner and we're actually using them on top of our solar shed right now. But, today we're going to compare them
against the Colsun panel. The reason I initially didn't want to test with the Colsun panel is that they were a brand new company. People were saying these are the best panels that you can buy on Amazon, but I wanted to work with established companies. I couldn't find any information about their warranty, so
I was like, "I don't want to check these people out yet until I find out if they're more established or if they're going to be around for a while." But, I was actually super excited to find out that they now offer a 10-year product warranty on all of their solar panels and a 25-year output warranty up to
84.5%. Now, that is actually a little bit better than other companies like Renogy, for example, only does a 5-year product warranty and their 25-year guarantees up to 80% output. So, of course, a warranty only matters as long as the company is around and can actually service that
warranty, but it says a lot that they stand by their products and that they are good enough quality to offer a warranty like this. So, putting these two panels up side by side, this is the Renogy Shadow Flux 200 and this one is the Colsun 200. So, as you can see, it is a little bit taller, maybe an inch or
two taller in the longest dimension, and these two panels are also very close in width, although not exactly the same. The Colsun panel sticks out just a little bit further, and they are rated at 30.1 in for the Renogy, and 30.3 in for the Colsun. So, just something to be aware of. But,
another interesting thing about this panel is that it is also bifacial. So, how you can see the solar cells come through on the back, this Renogy panel is just white on the back, but this one can actually absorb some energy from the back. Pretty cool. This is the first bifacial panel that I've gotten, and I
want to see how it performs today. Right off the bat, lifting up this panel, I would say it actually feels a little bit lighter than the Renogy panel does. They're both listed on their website at 23.8 lb, but I want to see if that's accurate. >> [snorts] >> So, the Renogy comes in at 23.9
lb, and the Colsun comes in at 21.5 lb. So, you're saving a couple of pounds already by going with the Colsun over the Renogy, but you are increasing a little bit in size. If you saw my Renogy video, I said that this is close to the perfect panel, but I wish that they could make something a little
bit lighter weight. Of course, weight savings is always important when mounting something to an RV, but you are getting a little bit of weight savings when it comes to the Colsun. I will say when testing solar panels, I found that a couple things matter more than anything else to me. [music] Of
course, you want to see good power output when it comes to performance, but it totally matters what package that they come in. So, the three statistics that I want to look at today to find overall which one is the best is the watts per pound that they produce. So, which one produces more in relation to
how much they weigh, the watts per square foot. So, which can give you actually the highest power density. And then third, the watts per price. Now, this is a big difference when it comes to these two panels, but I can get more into that later once I find out the final results. Now, something new that
I've gotten for this head-to-head test that I haven't had in previous videos is [music] this watt meter. So, I can plug this into the back of the solar panels in line between this and the charge controller to get a realistic view of how much power these are producing over time. I'm going to let these two panels
sit flat on my deck on the table [music] and see how much these panels produce over an entire day of production. Okay, so I just got these two panels set up and set them up in the middle of my deck. The sun hasn't even come out yet. There are a bit of clouds here this morning. I'm starting at 8:00 and I've
connected both of these to what is called a high-precision watt meter as a benchmark already. The Colsun is bringing in 12 watts and the Renogy is at 10. Super, super early. The sun's not even out yet, but I'm going to let these run all day and see what they bring in through different
conditions throughout one full day of sun. Okay, it is now 9:00 a.m. doing another check-in. The clouds have actually come in and these panels have not really seen any direct sun yet. Super overcast right now, but let's see where we are at. So, the Colsun panel bringing in 38 watts currently
and has brought in 22.5 watt hours total and the Renogy is bringing in 31 watts and 18.3 watt hours. Let's check back in when the sun comes out. Checking back in at 11:00 a.m. It's now been 3 hours since the start of the test. It's still overcast out, but the sun is starting to peek out a bit. The
Renogy right now has brought in 102.8 watt hours, and it's bringing in just about 60 watts. And the Colsun's bringing in 68 watts, and a total of 119.6 watt hours. So, hopefully the sun is going to continue to come out, and I can get some more realistic testing in sunny conditions.
All right. Finally got some sun out here. It is 12:00 noon right now. So, it's been going for a total of 4 hours. The sun is almost at the highest point in the sky. There's still some clouds, but the Renogy is bringing in 100 and it's moving around a little bit with the sun. It was at maybe one mid 150s.
And total production so far is 197 watt hours. The Colsun panels not bringing in as much, but it could be the shade. Bringing in 225 watt hours. So, almost halfway through the test. The sun is not directly over the panels. There's definitely a tilt because it's February, but getting a good sense of how these
panels stack up. It is now 1:00. The sun is at the highest point in the sky, and it looks like it's going to be clear for the rest of the day. We are halfway through our testing period, and just to keep things fair, I've actually gone ahead and switched which charge controllers these two panels are on. So,
one will get one charge controller for half the day, and then the other one, and vice versa, just in case if there's any difference between the two. But, since we are halfway through the test, let's check to see where we are at. So, the Renogy panel has produced a total 299.8 watt hours.
And the Colsun panel has done 345.3 watt hours. So, rough math would be that the Colsun is producing 15% more power for this first half of the day so far. So, I'm going to say it's in the lead right now, but we'll see how it carries through for the rest of the day. Checking in, it is just about 2:00. The
sun is starting to come down a little bit. They're starting to be a little bit of shade cast on the deck, but still full sun on the panels. So, Renogy is bringing in about 128 watts and has brought in a total of 446.4 watt hours. And the Colsun is bringing in 143 watts and has brought in 504.5
watt hours. So, we'll see how this starts to act with a little bit of shade cast on the panels. It is now 3:00 and a really interesting part of the test because the shade is starting to move across the deck and we're about to get into partial shading test on these panels. The Renogy
has brought in a total of 513 watt hours exactly. And the Colsun has brought in 580.3 watt hours. Hey, checking in 30 minutes later. The panels are now covered about a quarter as the sun is coming down and just coming out for full sun. So, I'm curious what they're outputting.
The Colsun is just about 70 watts. And the Renogy is actually 26 watts. So, maybe a little bit more of the Renogy is covered than the Colsun, but so far I'm really impressed with the partial shade performance of this panel as well. All right, it is now 4:00 p.m. This looks like just about the last direct
sun I'm I'm to get for the day. The panels are about 3/4 of the way in shade and the last quarter is in sunlight, but for a total Renogy's brought in 556.2 watt hours. And Colsun has brought in 637.6 watt hours. All right, it is now 5:00 at the end of
the day. The sun is not set yet, but but any direct light is not hitting the deck anymore and these panels are not getting charged by the EcoFlow, but they still have some power coming into them. So, Colsun's bringing in 11 watts. Renogy's bringing in about seven and let's look at our totals
to 5:00 p.m. So, Renogy has brought in 570.1 watt hours. And Colsun has brought in 656.7 watt hours. Okay, so overall, I thought this test went really well for the Colsun panel. Now, we got a good spectrum of varying test conditions because in the morning from about 8:00 to 11:00, it was extremely overcast. So,
we got to see like really low light performance of these panels. Then in the middle of the day, the sun came fully out getting direct sun. Keep in mind, it is February, so the sun wasn't coming like directly over the top. There was still a tilt. And then later in the day, as in my RV started to cast shade on the
panels, we got some partial shading test to see as the shade grows across the panel, how the production would change across the board. Now, overall over the course of the day, the temperature ranged from about 73° to 80° Fahrenheit. So, keep that in mind when I share these numbers, but overall, it was a pretty
clear-cut winner. If you break down the hourly production through every hour of the day, Colsun outperformed Renogy in every one of these conditions. Now, I'll break down the numbers a little bit better so you can compare them across the board because of course these panels cost a different amount. They're
actually a little bit different size and weight. So, we'll see which one actually comes out on top when I factor these things in. Okay, so when looking at final results of the testing of this panel, I'm really impressed with the results. Now, like I mentioned earlier in the video, there's three main
statistics I want to look at when concluding the result between these two panels to see which one wins. The first one is how much power they produce per square foot. The Colsun comes in at 51.3 in by 30.3 [music] in and the Renogy is 49.7 in by 30.1. Now, that makes the Renogy 4% smaller
when it comes to size and both [music] being rated at a 200 W panel, you'd think that Renogy would produce more [music] per square foot. But, during my actual testing, the real output that was produced over a full day of production was the Colsun produced [music] 661.1 Wh and the Renogy only produced 572.9.
[music] That means that when looking at the total power production per square foot, the Renogy produced 55.1 [music] Wh while the Colsun produced 61.2 Wh >> [music] >> per square foot. Now, this means that the Colsun panel produced 11% more power per square foot than the Renogy and
that's really important when looking at RV roofs. That's like the most important statistic I look at cuz we really want to make sure that we can fit as much power as we can within the tight working dimensions of an RV rooftop. Now, the second metric I said was important was how much power they can produce per
pound that you would be adding to your roof. Now, this is really important especially when talking about RV rooftops because you don't want to load hundreds of pounds up on a roof. So, the result of this actually surprised me a little bit. I already told you the total result power production that these two
produced. So, for the sake of this comparison, I found that the Colsun was 21.5 lb and the Renogy was 23.9 lb. So, when you factor in the actual production that they made over the course of a day, the Renogy produced 24 Wh per pound and the Colsun produced 30.7. So, that means that the Colsun produces 28% more power
per pound than you would be adding up on your RV roof. And the last statistic, which I think is also really important, especially when it comes to what panel that we recommend for others to use, because we tend to be very budget-minded people, is how much production you get per dollar that you spend. Now, this is
at the time of recording this video, but right now on Amazon, the Renogy Shadow Flux costs $216 per panel >> [music] >> and the Colsun comes in at $155 right now on Amazon. Now, factoring in that the Colsun panel also produced more over the course of the test, [music] the Renogy Shadow Flux came out at 2.7 Wh
per dollar that you spend and the Colsun came out at 4.3 Wh per dollar. Now, if you want to spend $100 or you want to spend $1,000, you're going to get an average of 61% more power going with Colsun than going with Renogy Shadow Flux. But, overall, that is going to do it for this test. If you want to check
